Above I have ranked in order of merit my best innings by an opening batsmen in a test match against express pace bowling.Placed Roy Frederick's at the top as he literally lambasted Lillee and Thomson at their fastest on the quickest  of wickets .Reminiscent of a tiger tearing apart a lion taking batting domination of genuine pace to regions of the sublime.Never witnessed a demolition job at such depth against lightning speed.Graham Gooch brilliantly counter-attacked the best ever attack in the history of the game at Kingston in 1981 blending the skillsof a technician with the power of a bulldozer. At leeds he displayed crfatsman ship rarely ever seem on a difficult wicket but verusus a lesser Calypso attack.Majid took Pakistan out of the depths of despair at Georgetwon in 1977 facing the great foursome.Gavaskar's 90 at Ahmedabad was a masterpiece on the most venomous of wickets where he resembled a surgeon and boxer rolled into one.One of the best counter-attacks ever on a bad wicket.

I have only considered knocks against express pace attacks and not fast-medium .I feel by early 1980's Lillee was fast-medium more than fast.I have also considered the pace of the wicket in this ranking,in addition to the strength of the pace attacks.
