Delhi Capitals showed the potential of their young squad as they defeated the 3-time IPL winners in their opening game of the 2019 season. They will now be facing the Chennai Super Kings, another 3-time IPL winner, in their first home game. The defending champions CSK got off the mark with a comfortable 7-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the opening game of the tournament. The two in-form teams are expected to produce a high-scoring game at the Feroz Shah Kotla.

All the key stats and numbers that matter ahead of the game between Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings:

2-4 Delhi Capitals’ 34-run win against CSK during the previous edition was their first in the IPL over Super Kings in Delhi since 2010. The CSK team won four of the six IPL matches they played against the Delhi franchise at the Feroz Shah Kotla.

15.41  Imran Tahir’s bowling average in the Twenty20 format at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi. The leg-spinner has claimed 17 wickets across 11 T20s he played at this venue including a 4-wicket haul at a strike-rate of 13.4.

21  Harbhajan Singh has 21 wickets in the IPL against the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals); the joint-most by any player against them. Lasith Malinga also claimed 21 wickets from 12 IPL games against Delhi. Harbhajan averages 22.57 against Delhi franchise in the IPL from 20 matches.

44.87  Suresh Raina average 44.87 in the Twenty20 format at the Feroz Shah Kotla. The left-hander has aggregated 359 runs across 11 T20 innings at this venue with help of two fifties.

118 Shikhar Dhawan has scored 118 runs in the IPL against Harbhajan Singh; the 2nd most by any player against Harbhajan in the league. Suresh Raina (132) is the only other player with 100+ IPL runs off Bhajji’s bowling. Dhawan scored the 118 runs from 95 deliveries with 14 fours and three sixes but was dismissed only once.

195.65  MS Dhoni’s batting strike-rate against Trent Boult in the IPL. Dhoni scored 45 runs from 23 deliveries against the pacer with 3 sixes and four fours in the IPL thus far. Dhoni scored 27 from only seven balls against Boult during the last year’s game in Pune itself.

The CSK skipper smacked Boult for three maximums and two fours in that match. Excluding the numbers during that encounter, Dhoni managed to score only 18 runs from 16 deliveries off Boult in IPL and was dismissed twice.

447  Ambati Rayudu has 447 runs in the IPL against the Delhi- franchise; the 2nd most he scored against any team. Rayudu scored 548 runs from 18 innings against RCB thus far. The CSK opener scored those 447 runs at an average of 34.38 with three fifties.

His numbers against Delhi have improved since 2015 as he scored 208 from six innings in the previous four seasons at an average of 52.

533  Shikhar Dhawan scored 553 runs in the IPL against Chennai Super Kings. Only Virat Kohli (738) and Rohit Sharma (606) scored more IPL runs against CSK than Dhawan. The left-hander has an average of 36.86 and scored five fifties from 18 innings against the Super Kings in the league.

933 - Rishabh Pant has scored in the Twenty20 format at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi. He needs 67 more runs to become the 2nd player after Virender Sehwag (1,199) to aggregate 1000 T20 runs at the Kotla. Pant scored those runs in 22 innings with two centuries and six fifties at an average of 46.65 and an S/R of 182.22.

Given the potential of Delhi’s attack this season, no team would like it to put too many runs on the board. Further, the pace trio of Ishant Sharma, Trent Boult and Kagiso Rabada are competing with each other to make an impression. The likes of Ambati Rayudu, Suresh Raina and Shane Watson could well have testing times.

In batting, home-grown batsmen are Delhi’s strength and it remains to be seen how Chennai deals with a steady Shikhar Dhawan, stroke-maker Prithvi Shaw, a mature Shreyas Iyer and an unpredictable Rishabh Pant.

Over all, expect a close combat.

Squads:

Chennai Super Kings: MS Dhoni (captain & WK), Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, Shane Watson, Faf du Plessis, Murali Vijay, Kedar Jadhav, Sam Billings, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Shorey, Chaitanya Bishnoi, Rituraj Gaikwad, Dwayne Bravo, Karn Sharma, Imran Tahir, Harbhajan Singh, Mitchell Santner, Shardul Thakur, Mohit Sharma, K M Asif, David Willey, Deepak Chahar, N Jagadeesan (wk).

Delhi Capitals: Colin Ingram, Manjot Karla, Prithvi Shaw, Sherfane Rutherford, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Amit Mishra, Avesh Khan, Bandaru Ayyappa, Harshal Patel, Ishant Sharma, Kasigo Rabada, Nathu Singh, Sandeep Lamichhane, Trent Boult, Axar Patel, Chris Morris, Colin Munro, Hanuma Vihari, Jalaj Saxena, Keemo Paul, Rahul Tewatia, Ankush Bains and Rishabh Pant.

If it's a flat pitch in Delhi, I have no doubts we'll smash these chuskis to pieces but of it's a slow wkt ,they have the advantage .

Anyway if you look at the teams, csk looks so over the hill ,its only a matter of time before the wheels start to fall off !

It was 'my' DC playing XI  :)

Of course Dhawan is not going to be dropped, not anytime soon anyway.

Actually Dhawan was pretty good in T20Is in 2018. If he can get back to that form, the DC batting will be pretty settled with almost all Indian bats. They would then have the option to shore up their bowling with the likes of Rabada, Boult, Morris, Lamichhane etc.

Will CSK again go i  with 3 overseas players?

DC would most likely bring in Morris for Paul. Ideally I ll bing in Morris for Boult

Has Moriss joined the squad don't think he will play today.

Your team was banned for two years and had a Ceo who was betting.

Banned for two years and still 3 more IPL's than both your favorite teams COMBINED:aha::two_thumbs_up:

Both your teams RCB and DD have never won despite you constantly switching between those teams and switching with your other philcric account. I mean between your two fake accounts you support 25% of IPL teams and still ahve ZERO IPL trophies in 11 years

Joke is on you LMAO

Better to lose with dignity than win by cheating @philcric any views that both of us have fake accounts as informed to us by genius.

That’s being cheap not having cojones. Chuski mama cost cutting and using cheap Indian labour like jadeja instead of expensive overseas players!!!!
