Global.Baba
When you watch a player like Sam Curran , he is obviously not that much quicker than our very own Khaleel,Chahar or Kulkarni but you can see what sets him apart is that he is such a multi-faceted cricketer. A very good fielder and a more than a decent batsman and most importantly has a good and calm brain under pressure. However looking at our trundler brigade or even young upcoming bowlers the likes of Khaleel,Siraj,Avesh Khan,Unadkut,Kulkarni, Sandeep Sharma, kaul Saini,Prasidh,Thakur,Shami etc none of these guys seem to know how to hold the bat or neither do they display any athleticism on the field. Umesh is a a very athletic fielder so I will give him that but you get the point. The closest we have to a multi dimensional cricketer are unfortunately Bhuvi and Chahar. We got lucky with Bumrah who has turned into a world class bowler but even he can neither hold a bat or field even though his fielding has some what improved in recent times. Actually even the spinners we are producing are one-dimensional. Chahal, M.Ashwin, Markande etc none can neither field nor bat from what I have seen. A generation ago or so most bowlers who came into the side could hold the bat. From guys like Binny, Madan Lal,Chetan Sharma to Subroto Banarjee, Paras Mhambrey, Salil Ankola or even guys like Srinath,Balaji and even Zak when he started early on. Pathan and Prabhakar were great utility cricketers. In fact Pathan had a truckload of potential before he screwed it up. Vinay Kumar,Praveen Kumar were decent enough with the bat. Decent going by today's standards of one dimensional products that is. Sure we had the odd Munaf Patel and Venkatesh Prasad. However this seems to be a biggest collection of one-dimensional products assembled in our cricketing history. Today I saw Avesh Khan batting. Yes he came in a hopeless situation but the way he was swinging blindly when all he had to do was get of strike and give Rabada the strike. There is no excuse for being brainless just because he is a no 10 and his team is losing. Had he got out lunging and trying to take a single that would make sense but displayed serious lack of match awareness. I think in our quest to find anyone who hits 140k and anyone who has a little bit of a "mystery" spin we are not developing them well enough in all facets which is resulting in this problem. We have the worst tail in world cricket for a reason and we are struggling to find a balance because none of our batsmen can bowl. IPL should have thrown a lot of utility cricketers but we are ending up with such guys who are very raw, useless and once again one-dimensional. Yes there are the odd Pandya bros and Vijay Shankar but that's about it. How good are they is a debate for another day. Rest are useless. A few years he ll be contributing lower down the order. Rahul chahar is another guy - bats well....outstanding in field Anukul roy- very handy player at 8...damn good hitter Nagarkotti another package Just now, Global.Baba said: IPL should have thrown a lot of utility cricketers but we are ending up with such guys who are very raw, useless and once again one-dimensional. We need a Yuvraj Singh,Sehwag or even a Harbhajan or Pathan. A proper batsman who can bowl decently or a proper bowler who can hold the bat. There is being one-dimensional and then on the other end there is being bits and pieces, we should find a middle ground. zen
One of the reasons I support Hardik -> ability to hit 100s and bowl at 140+

We did see him tonk well in IPL last year, Jadeja n axar till date havent been able to do that in IPL to I think this next generation wud be far better with Hitting, IPL has helped us with both fast bowling n hitting skills . We aint using it thats a diff story 2 minutes ago, Global.Baba said: There is being one-dimensional and then on the other end there is being bits and pieces, we should find a middle ground. That is an individual journey....they all will go on their ways. Some will become bit of both some might just concentrate on one skill and other less like deepak hooda has gone more towards batting now

fineleg
After the Multiple Years Injury Layoff, we need to see what the newly emerging (whenever he emerges) Nagarkoti can or cannot do. Trending towards Atul Sharma though Nagarkoti was real :( some years ago. And Mavi Injury prone too. Edited April 2, 2019 by fineleg
