Is this the most open IPL yet?

Half the season's over.

Other than CSK, no team looks certain to qualify yet, 5 of the teams are closely in contention with similar no of wins.

Even RR, and RCB aren't ruled out completely yet.

On the contrary, 2 of the 8 teams being practically out of the tournament even before half way through, makes it far from being the most open IPL.

Practically ... 1 team through, 2 teams out of comp, 5 teams fighting for remaining 3 playoff spots ... so, out of 8 teams only 5 teams would need to be really invested in their matches for remaining half of the tournament .... that's quite ridiculous and far from being a competitive tournament.

For something like a 8 team, 14 games/team league, it will be competitive only if the win-loss differential is not more than (+ or -) 2 at any point for each team. CSK is +6, RR is -3, RCB is -5. The position of these 3 teams drastically reduces the competitiveness of this IPL.

The interesting, crucial and meaningful matches from here on would be the ones played by SRH, KXIP, KKR, MI and DC. Their W-L differentials are -1, 0, 0, 1, 2.

Almost the end of the IPL, and still no one out of the IPL yet. CSK, DC, MI are almost sure to qualify, KXIP, SRH, RR,KKR, RCB not out of it yet.

IPL is still open.

No. RCB and RR are practically out because of NRR, even if they win their remaining games (which they won't anyway).

CSK, MI and DC should be through comfortably.

The last spot is between SRH, KXIP and KKR. SRH probably has the best chance among the three. They just have to win 2 out of 3 games, they have an excellent NRR.

But yeah, the late resurgence of RR and RCB, and the middle muddle of KKR, KXIP and SRH, has made it much more interesting than what it looked like at half way in the tournament.

KKR has to win the remaining 3 games and considering their 6 game losing streak, it is almost impossible.

SRH has the best chance but with Bairstow gone, Warner departing soon after. Their top order will weaken, already their middle order is weak. Even the bowling is a let down compared to their prev years.

KXIP should have the best chance but they seem to choke at the end stages. Lost quite a few close matches this year. Lost almost everything last year after such a great start.

5 teams are in Fierce competition for 4th spot.If MI and DC lose their remaining matches by big margins, they can be knocked out of top 4 depending upon other results.MI have less to worry due to their NRR. RR,RCB & KKR should still fancy their chances. They need to win all their games now & win them big. It's pretty open now.
