zen
The squad announced is in line with what was anticipated: Let's look at strengths and weaknesses: a) Openers: Rohit and Dhawan View overall figures [change view] Primary team India Start of match date between 1 Jan 2019 and 31 Dec 2019 Batting position between 1 and 2 Ordered by batting strike rate (descending) Page 1 of 1 Showing 1 - 2 of 2 First Previous Next Last Return to query menu Cleared query menu Overall figures Player Mat Inns NO Runs HS Ave BF SR 100 50 0 4s 6s S Dhawan 13 13 1 420 143 35.00 475 88.42 1 2 2 52 4 RG Sharma 13 13 0 556 133 42.76 701 79.31 1 4 1 44 16 Both openers are past their best While Dhawan's SR is relatively acceptable, Rohit's below 80 Conversation rate to 75 runs or more = 19% (which is poor considering the SR) Once they reach 75 or more, the SR barely touches 100 View overall figures [change view] Primary team India Start of match date between 1 Jan 2019 and 31 Dec 2019 Runs scored greater than or equal to 75 Batting position between 1 and 2 Ordered by batting strike rate (descending) Page 1 of 1 Showing 1 - 2 of 2 First Previous Next Last Return to query menu Cleared query menu Overall figures Player Mat Inns NO Runs HS Ave BF SR 100 50 0 4s 6s S Dhawan 2 2 1 218 143 218.00 218 100.00 1 1 0 24 3 RG Sharma 3 3 0 315 133 105.00 317 99.36 1 2 0 26 11 Verdict: Weakness Expect: A few neither here nor there type of innings Some good innings vs. esp vs the minnows in games Ind is expected to win anyways In order to try to play a long inning, someone like Rohit could suck up the momentum Have to pull up their socks to make Ind competitive b) #3: Kohli Verdict: Strength (Batting) Expect: A few solid innings to keep India in the game or win the game c) #4 and #5: Shankar and Dhoni The top 4-5 should primarily be looked for their batting abilities However, Shankar is chosen more for its abilities to bowl a few overs. Has the tendency to implode under pressure Dhoni can be useful if consolidating Verdict: Weakness Expect: A few cameo type innings When the going gets tough, they may not get going At best, could be a mixed bag d) #6 and #7: Jadhav and Pandya Both of them are high SR players Can contribute with the ball India may not have comparable options at this point Pandya could turn out to be the #2 most important wicket after Kohli Verdict: Strength (AR Abilities) Expect Good and entertaining innings under pressure Decent bowling combination as 5th bowlers Win or lose, their performance could be something to cheer Indian fans up e) #8 and #9: Kuldeep and Bhuvi/Chahal Verdict: Strength (Bowling) Expect Fighting innings with the bat here and there Impactful performances with the ball esp. by the two spinners Could go for big runs in a few games f) #10 and #11: Shami and Bumrah Verdict: Strength (Bowling) Expect Nothing much with the bat Good bowling performances Ind's fortune could depend upon their ability to pick early wkts g) Bench KL: May get drafted in place of either Shankar or one of the openers once the tourney progresses DK: Could get the opportunity to keep in a few games as the tourney progresses. But will not have many earth-shattering performances Jadeja: Could get a look in if some of the other players are not clicking Overall Team's Performance Once you reach KO anything can happen but to reach there, Team India will have to fight tooth and nail with NZ, SA and WI for a spot Edited April 16, 2019 by zen Link to comment
zen
Around 80% of the time the openers scored 75 or less where: View overall figures [change view] Primary team India Start of match date between 1 Jan 2019 and 31 Dec 2019 Runs scored less than or equal to 75 Batting position between 1 and 2 Ordered by batting strike rate (descending) Page 1 of 1 Showing 1 - 2 of 2 First Previous Next Last Return to query menu Cleared query menu Overall figures Player Mat Inns NO Runs HS Ave BF SR 100 50 0 4s 6s S Dhawan 12 12 1 277 75* 25.18 360 76.94 0 2 2 34 1 RG Sharma 10 10 0 241 62 24.10 384 62.76 0 2 1 18 5 Avg = around 25 SR = shockingly bad esp. Rohit's 63 If the openers play like this in 80% of group games (7 out of 9) or against the stronger teams, Ind would be on the backfoot as these guys would not be producing meaningful knocks and will be wasting deliveries as well. These guys would need to find some good form quickly and play more freely! Edited April 16, 2019 by zen Link to comment
zen
As for fielding, it would be a weakness too w/ Chahal, Bumrah, Shami, Kuldeep, Rohit, Dhawan, etc., expected to be on the ground Link to comment
