Should we read too much into failures of youngsters in the IPL?

Potential future talent are having a lean season. Guys like Shaw, Pant, Gill, Agarwal,Shankar.   Iyer has scored runs albeit at a slow pace.  Only guy that stood out is Nitish Rana with a good strike rate and also showed six hitting skills. Infact most sixes by an Indian in this ipl edition with 18 .

sixes. May be guys like Agarwal, Gill, Shankar, Kishan are more suited to play one dayers and longer versions. T20 requires some unique skills. Our current T20 line up woefully lacks it.  Nitish Rana should be in the reckoning for T20.   He and Pant can be the enforcers alongwith Pandya.

IPL does give a snapshot and this does show they are not ready yet. It takes time to develope a player annd 18-20 yrs old do not cut it in any competitive sport. There is a reason why average age in Bundes and La liga is somewhere around 26.

Shaw and Pant have won games for their teams. Agarwal has had a great SR. All 3 have also won MoMs iirc .... Out performed likes of Rohit, Jadhav, DK, and Shankar, who has been imploding .... Though Agarwal and Shankar are 28 yrs old to be classified as “youngsters”

Pant clicked in one game. Shaw clicked in one game. Agarwal didn't exactly do what he was supposed to do. Who cares about strike rate if he can't protect his wicket at the same time.   Other players you refer are already have had a long career. You don't need IPL to judge them. These are below par returns. I say let us not judge them based on it. I am not sure what you are trying to say here? Are you saying these are great performances?

what is important is that they are clicking and winning games single-handedly for their team .... As for SRs, batsmen do not play for stumps. To casual fans, it looks a great shot when the ball goes for a 6 or bad when they get out. Also high SR is not achieved simply by playing big shots (black and white thinking), you can hit the ball in the gaps too (note that hitting the ball in air in gaps is not a chance like what many think)  

 

No batsman (unless in a terrific form) performs in all the games. No team wins all the game (unless you are an ATG team like a WI or Aus or the Wolves in IPL). If your assumption is that performance has either got to be great or bad (failure), and there is no middle ground, it is black and white thinking (and displays a lack of understanding of sports)

There are zero big hitters in domestic cricket.All the talent we have currently are opening batsmen.None of them are ready for primetime yet. Rahul and Mayank are only ones who should have been reasy for international cricket are inconsistent.Rahul is having okay season but his SR is very low.He has not shown anything if he is cut for middle order.

Yes sometimes inappropriate roles to the batsman bring the worst out of them.

and same Pant was top scorer in league stage last year.  it is not easy for youngs ones to have great seasons consistently though Rahul is having another great season with already 400 runs to his name.

Shaw didn’t lay well for lucky.pant did well Once again it is about not reading  too much into failures not success. If they do well it is fine.

Absolutely nothing to worry about. Not many players can be successful across all formats like a David Warner or an AB. The players mentioned in the OP will all do better in ODIS/Tests. Heck even pant should focus on longer formats . This is fun cricket. Nothing more.

The only guy suited for middle order among all the upcoming batsmen is Pant.He should have been in the squad ahead of DK.
