Ankit_sharma03
Ishant Sharma might not have played an ODI for India since January 2016, but he is performing brilliantly in Test cricket over the past few years. Ishant, who claimed 41 wickets at an average of 21.80 from 11 Tests in the last calendar year, has been doing reasonably well in the ongoing IPL as well. Playing for Delhi Capitals, the speedster has taken 10 wickets in 11 games at an impressive economy rate of 7.65. Considering his brilliance lately, Ishant has been named as a standby player for the 2019 World Cup, a TOI report claims. Earlier, the BCCI had confirmed young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant, veteran batsman Ambati Rayudu and pacer Navdeep Saini as India’s designated standbys for the mega event, beginning May 30 in England Wales. "Saini is our No 1 choice as a reserve seamer, while Ishant is the second option. He has experience of bowling in the English conditions, and he's bowling well currently," a source in the Board told TOI on Monday (May 6). As far as Ishant Sharma’s overall ODI record is concerned – the lanky pacer has played 80 ODIs for India, picking up 115 wickets at an average of 30.98 with the best bowling figures of 4/34. bowl_out
As long as Saini is the first option, I don't care that Ishant is there. UrmiSinhaRay, Mosher and sandsaims 2 1 Link to comment
Vilander
no problem with this. From what is on display in IPL who else should be after Saini ? umesh ? Khaleel ? Siraj ? Prasish ? i dont think Ishant after Saini is wrong. sandeep and vishalvirsingh 2 Link to comment

Gollum
Team Ishant all the way, prefer him over Saini tbh. Lambu knows English conditions now after his CC stint, that too under Dizzy's tutelage. sandeep 1 Link to comment

Real McCoy
I hope Saini and Prasidh are considered over him if the need arises. Ishant is only effective with the new ball. We have three new ball bowlers who are better than him. If he gets picked, he will get first bite at the new cherry because his friendship with Kohli. Bumrah, Shami and Bhuvi will be like wth. I hope we dont run into situations like that. And he gets carted at the death overs Buttler, Russell and Maxwell will eat him for breakfast, lunch and dinner Vilander and vvvslaxman 1 1 Link to comment

India need death over specialists as backup. Link to comment
putrevus
These selectors have been the worst bunch. They have no vision. Link to comment
Nikhil_cric
Good. We need a tall bowler as well and Ishant has swung and seamed the ball more than any other bowler with the red ball, has been remarkably accurate and maintains sufficient pace. Not a bad decision at all. Link to comment

He can be a good third seamer But keep him away in dearth overs Link to comment

Turning_track
Won't mind Ishant being a back up seamer but he's definitely not up for bowling in death overs. Link to comment
ShoonyaSifar
No disrepct to Ishant but wHile we are at it, why not put Mohit Sharma in the reckoning as well. Did very well in 2015 WC and has the WC experience, something Ishant doesn't have Link to comment
