Even in India, traditional barriers and stereotypes are being broken slowly. Though, a doctors, engineers,accountants,etc are socially regarded quite high in the eyes of parents. Financially and socially these professions are regarded as safe and respectable career paths. Social classes on the basis of your profession still goes a long way IMO.
