ICC events have challenges such as a) playing different teams in different games, b) playing full strength sides that have done their homework, and c) the pressure

If we look at top run-getters, one trait that emerges is that successful top order players have played/play tests too, which coaches well on managing adjustments challenges and pressure scenarios

Since Agarwal and Shaw are our test openers who also have the game for LOIs, I would not be surprised to see them adjust positively to the challenges of ICC events when they eventually get their opportunities after the WC!

Dude again and again you are coming to the same point, pretty sure I saw these stats in one form or the other in multiple threads

Rohit will start but don't think his belly will allow him to finish the group stage, we could be looking at a Dhawan-KLR opening combo at some point. Aur tab jaake tujhe tasalli milegi :cantstop:. Now that IPL is done&dusted I am sure you and @maniac (and his other avatars in all their glory esp Baba 420) are on collision course. You were forced to ally as long as wolves were in the picture but now the knives will be out. I look forward to being entertained. Punjab-Bong mahayudh in chitchat and other fights here :pop2:

 I hope those selected do well in the WC .... This topic is about re-building post-WC though as they say hope for the best, prepare for the worst

In that case I will root for a Pant-KLR opening pair. Left/right combo, both well placed to make best use of PP and hard ball, both not at their best in middle overs, them exciting stroke players with abundance of offensive firepower and swagger.

No. 3 hopefully Gill and if he fails my preferential order will be Iyer>Shaw>Mayank>Samson considering the next couple of major LOI ICC tourneys will be held in India. Hopefully one of them owns the #3 spot and the aging Kohli (he'll be 34 during WC 2023) can follow at #4 with the experience to guide the MO and redistribute the strength of the batting unit so that it isn't too top heavy.

Pant, Shaw, Agarwal, KL and Gill are all good options. KL and Agarwal are 27-28 so 2023 WC could be the last opportunity for them if they do not significantly improve their game .... While Pant, Shaw and Gill have age on their side and are expected to keep improving their game (reached their respective peak)

KLR is nothing but a young Rohit circa 2007-2008 minus the brilliant off spin ability with a swanesque action  and the  rhodesesque electric fielding and the eninsteinesque cricketing mind

Must admit some of his shots are amazing just like Rohits when he burst in to the scene. However long way to go still. He is a work-in-progress

Serious question let’s say 3 runs to win off the last ball in the final , Imad Wasim hits a skier.

Rohit/ Rahul is under the ball- who would you pick?

same scenario. Bumrah is the bowler trying to figure out what to bowl and figuring out. Dhoni is yelling Chakka kha ke dikha. Virat is doing Bhangra at deep midwicket to amuse the fans.

Who is the  man you look to go and tell Bumrah, stay calm and bowl a Yorker/short ball or come up with advice.

Rohit/Rahul who is your pick

All the bowlers are injured or completed their quota  but someone has to bowl.

Rohit/Rahul who is your option.

Keeping , yes Rahul has utility but Dadu is like the pumpkin used to remove the Nazar. He ain’t going anywhere.

So tell me guys. Who who who?

Understand but you would rather have players who create a situation where the other team has 15 runs to get off the last ball than 3

If you want to talk about IPL, he flopped in the final with the bat. Rohit has neither a higher avg or SR than Rahane in the competition.  Wolves won because of the likes of Pandya and Bumrah, who are not even asking for credit. Their performance do the talking :dontknow:

One rare offseason. He is one of the greatest IPL performers of all time

4 championships as captain

1 Champions league

won as both player and captain

won for 2 different franchises

multiple 50s and 100s

hattrick with the ball

already know the international world records

sometimes you you have to back your greatest ever even during a lean patch

Rohit is in the WC squad though despite appearing to be past his best. Now it depends upon how he performs .... and eventually,  would need to be replaced by batsmen who can perform at that level or better, and will also go on to improve in future
