WC19 General Discussion Thread

Had a great time during the FIFA World Cup!

Below are the teams at the QF stage:

"Winners performance ranking so far:

1. FRA (played the best game so far .... vs ARG)

2. Bra (Engineered the win vs a solid MEX)

3. Uru (a good display of defence and strikering abilities vs POR)

4. Bel (for the comeback after being 0-2 down)

5. Rus (punched above its weight)

6. Cro (for the under performance. However could start as fav vs RUS)

7. Eng (hung on vs the fighting COL)

8. Swe (beat the tough SWI)"

In terms of playing style, which cricket teams would be the equivalent to football teams above?

Based on current strengths, I guess:

  • FRA = Eng, as it has the game to overpower the opponent
  • BRA = Aus. Overall strong team
  • URU = Ind, as the bowling is good but batting reliant on certain individuals
  • BEL = SA. Does well but can have off days
  • RUS = NZ. Punches above its weight
  • CRO = WI. Players who can pick up their game to make it competitive
