CWC Match 2 | West Indies Vs Pakistan | Trent Bridge, Nottingham | May 31, 2019 | Match thread

Recommended Posts

Flair and unpredictability have usually defined both these teams throughout most of their cricketing histories. However, in recent years, neither have been considered legitimate contenders for ICC trophies in this format as neither Pakistan nor West Indies have managed to plunge to greater depths in terms of cricket. Despite that, Pakistan are the current Champions trophy holders and West Indies managed to hold WC favourites England to a 2-2 draw in a high scoring series.  The pitch, toss and conditions will determine the outcome of this match to a great extent but one gets the feeling that given the nature of the Trent Bridge pitch, West Indies should start as favourites .

I want a WI big win, but Pak will somehow pull it off. Gut feeling.

Pak have seriously improved their batting.  Their average score used to hover around 250.  They have raised that, and managed to be consistent.  With the Windies, you just never know what their batting is going to do.  Pendulum can swing from 190 all out to 450.

If the Windies can manage to bat with some consistency, it will be fun.  They are one of the few teams that can really scare you with the bat.  SA, Aus, Bang, Pak, SL, Afg can't do that.

I hope it's a flat wicket. WI bat first and a couple of their top order batsmen click plus hard hitting from Russel/ Nurse /Holder during the slow overs propels them to a 350+ Score. Even though Pakistan has a decent batting line-up these days,  the scoreboard pressure would choke them.

If Pakistan loses to WI they will be completely demoralized and other stronger opponents can walk over them as the tournament progresses.

Pakistan enters the competition on a ten match losing streak so hoping for WI to take full advantage of the growing tension in the Pakistani Camp.

that even happened in 2015 Wc and yet pakistan qualified for quater final

Because then Pakistan were in a group of 7 teams ( out of which top  four would qualify for the Quarters ) ,   three  were Zimbabwe,  UAE and Ireland. All Pakistan had to do was win against the minnows and they would still qualify for the quarters.

They played against 4 decent opponents in India,  WI,  SA , Australia and only won against SA ( even that due to typical choke from Sa) .

The weakest teams of this world Cup for example Bangladesh, Afghanistan and SL are stronger than the minnows that they faced in their group of the Previous WC.
