Chernobyl - is a masterpiece

What Separates Chernobyl from Three Mile Island and Fukushima

"While this radiation continued to drop over the Ukrainian countryside, the Soviets staged their annual extravagant May Day parade in Moscow. Mikhail Gorbachev, whose leadership guided the Kremlin response, smiled and waved to the crowd in Red Square. To the south, just 90 miles from where the fires of Chornobyl were still burning out of control, the Soviets staged another massive parade in Kyiv that included children dancing down Kyiv’s broad central avenue, Khreshchatyk. Perhaps the only noticeable difference from previous May Day celebrations in Kyiv was the fact that as the marchers and dancers reached the reviewing stands where Communist Party bosses traditionally watched the festivities, they found the stands empty. Some members of the “classless” Soviet society had been given enough information to know to evacuate the republic’s capital. There was also a May Day bicycle race. Exercise and deep breathing — all the better to inhale radiation."

They skipped this part in the series. But this is appalling. No wonder communist countries are not much respected around the world.

Why can't our people do something similar, away from that saas/bahu garbage. Many of this generation aren't aware of Bhopal gas tragedy, why not bring it to the big screen or a mini-series?

very difficult , i doubt someone has a craft like that here. The direction, writing, acting of this series is flawless

Our industry doesnt value writer, good content will only be produced if writers are valued. Another problem is all foreign companies come to india to make good content but they do the same mistake of hiring same old ppl which produces same result. Many corporates came like fox n all but at high level position they hired old school ppl hence it resulted in many of them closing down. Same issue with Amazon prime n netflix hence we cant produce such stuff .

Its like halwa distributed among themselves. Their are so many talented filmmakers down south or even in marathi circuit but they wont get a chance to helm a project like this. Once Aamir khan said in an interview we cant even visualize at those guys level and he was right atleast in terms of bollywood, but i wnt say the same about many south filmmakers imagination.

Plus our producers, channel heads have no balls to invest in someone original vision , they wanna play safe n invest in remakes or tried tested formula

Absolutely. Bhopal could easily be told ala Chernobyl. But Ind TV/Bollywood is abysmal when it comes to telling real or historical events.

The producers of Chernobyl would probably be the best people to retell what happened at Bhopal.

It is based on true events, but not everything in there is true.  More than anything, it gets a lot of facts wrong about nuclear energy.  Unfortunately, USSR's rogue-giri will be used in anti-nuclear propaganda to suppress the development of clean, abundant energy that nuclear provides.

The creator of the series himself has said “The lesson of Chernobyl isn’t that modern nuclear power is dangerous,” he tweeted. “The lesson is that lying, arrogance, and suppression of criticism are dangerous.”  But it is not going to stop eNGOs from demonizing nuclear.  This is unfortunate because it is the most effective way to generate clean electricity.

I rather not have them touch such subjects and ruin them.

There are so many levels they need to upgrade before they can even get to such dark and gritty drama. For starters as a challenge let them at least try to make a saas-bahu drama where characters have a lot more emotional depth and character development and where there is a coherent storyline and direction to the story.

2. family man

Unfair to compare HBO shows with prime time shows in India. HBO shows are for upper middle classes niche audience and hence these shows appeal to their sensibilities. Prime time TV has shows like Bachelor, Bachelorette, reality TV. Wheel of fortune, unrealistically set sitcoms appealing to teens.  Ask me, it is no different than saas-bahu serials which are catering to people who seem to like them
