CWC Match 17 | Australia vs Pakistan | Taunton | June 12, 2019 | Match thread

Recommended Posts

Australia go into this match having won 14 of their last 15 ODI's against Pakistan but that will mean little in this crucial encounter at Taunton, a ground not used for ODI's since the 1999 edition of the World Cup. Marcus Stoinis has been injured and Mitchell Marsh has been called as cover for the allrounder. Taunton has had a very high scoring rate(~6.7) in English domestic 50 over matches in recent years. If weather forecasts are to be trusted, we can expect a result tomorrow although a full 100 overs may not be likely.

No result - 95% rain all morning and afternoon

CWC - Cricket Washout Cup continues

IPL better prepared and organised, and now even more exciting than these ODI WCs

does IPL have reserve days?

Nope, but in past have reacted quickly if severe weather is predicted by changing venues, and groundsmen are more proactive before, during and after rain, e.g. covering entire playing field

It's unfortunate and incompetent from ICC to host matches in stadiums with rubbish or no proper drainage systems - there losses are probably covered by insurance anyways

A washout in the SL and Aus game is a win-win for Pakistan.  Will rain save them from India, NZ and SA though? I don't think so.

No. Tomorrow will be cloudy. There will likely be a delayed start.

Aussie batsmen bar Smith are no legends on green pitches either. They have been bowled out for some sub par score on these conditions in recent times.

Aus have advantage in a batting shootout over England with Pak because Starc and Cummins are going to be a up hill task for Pakistani batsmen. If it is bowling friendly then it is even stevens imho

Looking at the forecast, we may get a full first innings under overcast conditions. But it's in the afternoon that the rain is supposed to pick up. DLS may come into play.

Australia 1 David Warner, 2 Aaron Finch (capt), 3 Usman Khawaja, 4 Steven Smith, 5 Shaun Marsh, 6 Glenn Maxwell, 7 Alex Carey (wk), 8 Nathan Coulter-Nile, 9 Pat Cummins, 10 Mitchell Starc, 11 Kane Richardson

Pakistan 1 Imam-ul-Haq, 2 Fakhar Zaman, 3 Babar Azam, 4 Mohammad Hafeez, 5 Sarfaraz Ahmed (capt & wk), 6 Shoaib Malik, 7 Asif Ali, 8 Wahab Riaz, 9 Hasan Ali, 10 Shaheen Afridi, 11 Mohammad Amir

On paper Australia bat deep and Pakistan have a long tail. But with Pakistan winning toss it could be a close match.

Takes special skill to drop a dolly like that.  You know Finchy's gonna hurt the greenbros here.  The mirror image of this will be when Pakistan bats, and their one hope of being competitive this game, the hack flashes a similar catch which will be swallowed without a fuss in the slips.
