What happens when teams take Pandya’s bowling out of the equation?

Recommended Posts

Hardik did bowl decently against Aus in patches but is still vulnerable. Aussies did smack him in a couple of overs and he is more likely to have a bad day than a good day against strong sides.

Hardik the batsman is right now worth his weight in gold so obviously it’s foolish to even think of tinkering with his place in the side .

However Jadhav the 6th bowling option is a joke. Looks like his bubble has burst. The novelty factor has worn off.

Can we play Pandya as a pure batsman and get in Shami in place of Jadhav or even Jadeja for Jadhav?

shankar is only a minor upgrade. If Jadhav can get you 1 over he may be able to get you 2 overs on a good day.

Because 10 overs between these 2 is a major concern. I would say even bigger than the “for now”  settled no.4 debate.

History says India won in 83 and 2011 when they did have proper 5th bowler with Yuvi in 2011 and Amarnath in 83 for those respective conditions they were batting allrounders but were good enough to bowl a lots of overs.

On these flat tracks this is a concern.

Jadhav is better than (only slightly) Shankar in finishing. Shankar is not a natural finisher. He is more of an innings builder at run a ball. These are big grounds. His mid wicket hoicks will land safely in the hands of deep fielders.  Let us go with the same team except including DK in the side. I know he is a 30 run guy. But if we use properly he can finish the game while chasing. We have issue while chasing. Karthik is relatively better while chasing especially when the asking rate is steep. He can complement Pandya.

It’s not about the batting slot but we have only 4.5 bowlers which may hurt us in knockouts especially on super flat pitches

I don't think Jadhav will be targeted in every match. Besides it was Steve Smith who targeted him. A top batsman. Many batsmen will struggle to time his super duper slow ball that will take forever to arrive.

That is why he is 6th bowling option. We have only 2  sixth bowling option. Jadhav bowling can be used at the right time next time around.  But Shankar's batting style probably works for conslidation. Not for finishing.

Lol it was only second outing for India and he got his @ss handed to Aus,he will surely be vulnerable against other teams ,evn against SL,BD,Afg let alone Eng,Pak etc

Jadhav is a liability,he is a burden which should not have been considered in the first place, brace yourself for him to breakdown that too in a match situation

People don't understand how important Pandya is to team balance. Sure he can potentially give away more runs than he scores with the bat but it isn't how value of a player in cricket is judged. Take previous match for example Kohli was struggling and Pandya promoted. He managed to provide impetus to India's innings which in turn allowed even old man Dhoni to join the party. He is the only guy in the team who can hit from the get go and he is in terrific form too. He is here to stay.

Shankar in international cricket is untested. Let's be realistic his selection was more a gut feel than backed by performance. Kedar will always get a node ahead of shankar.

Jadhav or  Shankar or Jadeja. Doesn't really matter. None of them are good atm. Jadhav arguably is better choice. He never had any set position to bat. Always thrown in anywhere. Barely even get to bat. Within those limited opportunities he has done well.

Absolutely not

Pandya game is a high risk game and one many days he ll get out cheaply and now that we have lost one consistent batsman .....not at all .

As if jadeja gives wkt and lets not forget when SL chased 320 in 2017 CT it was jaddu who gaves runs at almost 9 eco .

If JAdhav didnt get to bat in 2 games doesnt mean in future we wont need extra batsman, not every day top 3 will score.

It remains to be seen if jadhav has been soughted by Aussies only or other teams

Not a big one....surely pandya will go for runs but he as wkt taking ability as well. 5th bowler will always go for more runs but the worry ppl have for pandya leaking runs is tooo much then his eco rate suggest which is quite decent.

Teams are expected to go after 5th-6th bowlers, and that also provides an opportunity to pick up wkts .... If Pandya and Jadhav are not bowling, someone else will be targeted. On good batting surfaces, most bowlers go for runs
