Popular Post Malcolm Merlyn
India currently has two injured players in the squad. Both of them will be out till atleast the match vs England. Now the team management isnt getting the replacements in because they believe that the players will be fit for the 30th June match. The stupidity of this thinking is astonishing. Shikhar Dhawan has a fractured thumb. His hand is in a cast. So he wont be holding the bat for sometime. It will require intense exercise to get that immobile hand into full strength. After that he will need to get practice to get in the groove. Then on 30th June he will face Archer and Wood bowling at 90mph plus and targetting him with the short ball. Till then a certain Vijay Shankar who showed his worthlessness with the bat yesterday will hog the number 4 slot. Now if Dhawan fails to get fit, Pant will be in the team. He will be in the team right near the knockouts, with no match practice since the IPL. Common Sense would have been to get Pant in and give him a go againist the likes of Afghanistan, and get him in the groove. Now coming to the second one, Bhuvi, he has a hamstring injury. Kohli said he will be out for 3 games. So he will likely miss the England match as well. God forbids if Shami or Bumrah breaks down on the eve of a match we dont have anyone who has the required match fitness. There are chances that they may rush a unfit Bhuvi back like they did in 2018 and sideline him for long. Again Common sense says that Bhuvi should have been replaced by Saini and given a match vs Afghans. Rest Bumrah. But no. Our team management and its poor skills on how to manage injuries again shines through. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk Mosher, rahulrulezz, Vilander and 11 others 1 3 10 Link to comment
philcric
The only thing in defence of TM is that once a player is replaced, he cannot be recalled again. So, may be they would take a call about replacements in a few days, after getting a very clear picture. Bhuvi's injury happened just yesterday. Rightarmfast
Weird strategy. Sounds like Kohli has made a gang which will never be replaced, no matter what! Suhaan 1 Link to comment
Ankit_sharma03
Its WC and they dont wanna loose their main players.....thats why u have backups in squad to cover players who are injured for time being. beetle 1 Link to comment
diehardpacer
It's risky.Given wet conditions in most of the matches, they should expect few more injuries & plan accordingly.Read somewhere they had sent back Saini & other practice bowlers back before the 1st match. They should call Ishant as cover here. If they don't want to rule Dhawan out, niggle one out of DK,Jadhav,Shankar out & get Pant in. Currently, the squad is 9 decent players + Jadhav,Shankar,Jadeja,DK .Not making these replacement decisions early could prove costly if an emergency arises in crunch match. Link to comment
Stuge
High time 18 players should be allowed in world cups instead of 15 during WC. beetle, Vilander and AuxiliA 3 Link to comment

G_B_
shami is a good cover for Bhuvi. Rahul appears to be a cover for Dhawan. So make the most informed decision. Its a right call. AK007, Ankit_sharma03, AuxiliA and 3 others 6 Link to comment
ShoonyaSifar
Now that they have a 6 day break, expect that they will review the situation and take a call. Best time now to get replacements in so that they have a week to 10 days to get ready to come into the 11. Kedar and Shankar do not look fully fit either. Don't be surprised to see them aggravate their injuries soon. Shankar infact went out for treatment for what looked like a muscle pull yesterday after bowling an over and a half. Link to comment

Khota
Op has a valid point. Someone independent needs to make a recommendation if these players would be fit or not. If Dhawan's thumb is truly fractured we are looking at minimum of several weeks before it heals. Just because it heals does not mean he can play. Being healthy and healed and match fit are two different things. Injuries are part of sports and they need to be replaced. Also hamstrings can take a long time. Link to comment

Doesn't quite sound right. For the semis, why would you change a combo that works for 6 matches. Link to comment

Add to that Left right hand combination AK007 1 Link to comment
Suhaan
If Dhawan comes back just before our last league match ie before semis, that would be ideal,Dhawan walking in straight into sfs is a huge huge risk no matter how valuable he has been in icc tournaments in the past People will always say since he has done best in icc blah blah so must walki in straight in sfs leapfrogging the one who did his job in his absence Edited June 17, 2019 by Suhaan Link to comment
cowboysfan
Dhawan has a hairline fracture, I expect him to be back for the knockouts but hamstring injuries for fast bowlers don't heal so fast. Vilander and Sgattick10 2 Link to comment
G_B_
I guess with bhuvi it really depends on how Shami does. If he delivers an amazing performance then clearly its just better to stick with Shami than risk it. If he sucks then its time to bring back Bhuvi. If Rahul delivers with the bat and Shikar is fit for the final stages then Rahul back to 4 and you pick the better option among Kedar and Vijay. We still have around 5 games. Lets give a good role up the order to Vijay and Jadhav. I want to see them back at 4 and 5. As somebody rightly mentions, Kedar me thinks is carrying and injury or is not 100%. He has a week to be 100% v Afghanistan. AK007 1 Link to comment
zen
Both Pant and Saini should have been in the squad in the first place .... And that would have made it easier for the team to handle such injuries Edited June 17, 2019 by zen Suhaan 1 Link to comment
