Ind vs AFG Pre-Match Discussion (WC19)

The game is at Southampton on 06/22. Challenges/concerns for Ind:

  • Injuries to select players
  • Batting practice to lower MO
  • Need to rotate players in a long tournament

While an upset can happen, Ind is the overwhelming fav to win this. What should Ind's game plan be? Should it:

  • Rest some of the key players like Kuldeep and Chahal?
  • Give opportunity to likes of Pandya, Dhoni, Shankar, and Jadhav to bat higher to get a long inning under the belt
  • Take the initiative to rest Bumrah as well to reduce his workload as there are still 4 more games after this

Discuss!

Maybe try the below:

KL

Pandya

Kohli

Dhoni

Shankar

Jadhav

DK (can keep and be match ready if required)

Jadeja

Kuldeep/Chahal

Shami

Bumrah

panday as a opener. Might be 100-0 within 10 overs or out in couple of overs with flashy shots. I like the idea lol

BCCI should send a pool of two -three players for replacement as soon as possible .The rate at which are players are getting injured will need to replace a handful of them soon before knockouts.

Iirc, Pant and Saini are already traveling with the squad to be drafted in if required ....  IMO, they should have been a part of the original squad, which would have allowed Ind to manage the rotation and cover for injured players better

get batting practice for Shankar, Jadhav and Dhoni ASAP (esp former duo). I'd have Rahul, Rohit, Shankar, Jadhav, Dhoni, VK, Pandya in this order for batting.

When Dhawan is available or if Pant comes in, one of them will replace Shankar (or Jadhav depending on form). I would rather have Pandya and Dhoni, who are regulars relatively bat higher up to get an opportunity to play a long inning

I am no fan of shankar but it's important for him to get as many games as possible so that he doesn't do his usual choking and deer-in-the-headlights act in SFs, if he plays. besides, when dhawan comes in, only one of shankar and jadhav will play. by giving them both sufficient outings, TM will have a better idea of who's in form, etc. I think pandya has had sufficient batting practice for his style of batting

If Dhawan comes in, KL moves back to 4. So at 6 or 7, TM is likely to prefer Jadhav .... Knock out games will be in July and with pitches getting roughed up relatively, Jadhav would start bowling as well .... I would not worry too much about this spot as whoever plays at the end of the day they are fringe players relatively. Will take their performance as a bonus :dontknow:

jadhav is going to be tonked. 7 is also unfortunately too low for him, but it's TM's fault for bungling things up. he should be at 5or 6 but 5 is taken up by greybeard. this decision to send pandya up all the time will backfire if we are in a steep chase and we have t rely on jadhav coming in at 7 and bashing the attack from ball 1.

5th-6th-7th bowlers are not going to bowl like specialists. In the best case, you have to hope that they have a good day with the ball (at times leverage on pressure created by specialist bowlers). And in the worst case, they don’t give too many more than RRR/par score RR
