What a boring World Cup

Recommended Posts

Things have finally spiced up, once ICC realised flat pitches are killing competitive matches

Probably expect more slow pitches but also tailor some (I.e pattas) to ensure India and Eng reach semi finals

Slow pitches would be an issue for England more than India . English batsman are used to playing on roads ..So ,if there is anything for the bowler ,they feel wary .

I am unsure on what i want from SA vs PAK game. SA are anyways out if Pak wins then group stages could become really interesting or do i want the obvious and make tomorrow a fun-day by enjoying all the 'expert' analysis from across the border if they lose

Ironically, England now the only.top 4 at threat risk of not qualifying

ECB sure as hell will be pissed of after 4 years fine tuning to be a the perfect flat track bullies if Eng don't reach semis

World Cup should have similar knockout format as IPL imo - let first & 2nd placed teams play qualifier and 3rd & 4th placed teams play eliminator like how it's done in IPL...this will ensure that no matches are dead rubbers even if the top4 teams are decided much earlier...also rewards teams who have done well throughout the tournament.

3 teams gone already. Pak can join them as soon as Wednesday. SA next two matches will be dead rubbers

I have a feeling New Zealand will lose :nervous:

NZ looked shaky against WI and BD .

and one of the most boring world cup continues to snooze,

4 matches left and all more or less dead rubbers

even yesterday Eng v NZ game was a farce, where NZ played test cricket most of their innings

Rained off matches robbed the WC of tense finish to group stages:

Ind V NZ

WI v SA

Pak vs SL

Ban vs SL

And India win over NZ, would have made an interesting end to group stage with bought Pak, Ban and SL in the running depending on the outcome of the abandoned games

I hope ICC looks into avoiding this shambles next time and come up with a system to award a win rather than no play and sharing points

Next few matches will decide who plays whom in the semisIt will

Don't see Australia losing to South Africa.

Most likely it will be Aus vs NZ and India vs England.

I obviously hope we win this :isalute:

I would still rate this WC win a lot lower than the 2011 and 2007 T20 win. Those felt like wins. This tournament is going on since forever. I went for a 10 day holiday in between and its still not over. And it spills on to a second day.

Almost test match like.

The IPL had more craze/buzz/hype than this.

This “joke” applies to nearly every sport lol. Football is the worst. You sit through a 90 minute game, and the most likely result is something like 1-1. So, about 3 seconds of excitement crammed into 1 1/2 hours.

The problem with this WC was that you had a super long league stage, with the vast majority of matches not being interesting at all. It was only Pakistan being Pakistan, losing badly to WI but somehow defeating England and NZ, that kept some interest in the league stage.

The problem was that with each team playing 9 matches, no 1 match outside of India Pakistan, and maybe England Australia (but not even, because the Ashes are right around the corner), due to natural rivalries really mattered. Any team could lose a match and still have a great chance of making it.

But this oroblem was further compounded by the fact that the knockout stages, the most exciting part of the tournament, consists of a total of 3 matches, and these 3 matches are by necessity matchups that have already happened.

The 2015 WC generated immense excitement despite the match quality being lower, thanks to the fact that there were 7 KO matches. In this tournament by the time people start getting excited about the KO phase, by game 2 or 3, the tournament is over.

This is without even bringing in the rain, and the fact that the pitches have made this the only WC in the last 4 or 5, that the side batting first has a massive statistical (the last 4-5 WCs broke down nearly evenly, with just a win or 2 difference. In this WC, the side batting first has won twice as many times as the side batting 2nd).

Finally, comparisons to the IPL, which has a similar format, are way off. The IPL is basically an annual summer festival, and is a league, and not a once in 4 years global event, like the WC. Further, the IPL Is able to generate excitement by virtue of being a T20 league in itself, and the fact that nearly every match is played in 1 teams home ground.

It's a boring world cup because ODI cricket is now boring (mostly). The only exciting matches we get are low scoring thrillers but no one wants them.

The tournament like every other ODI world cup has been a miserable affair for me because it just goes on and on and on and on.

FFS when when the ICC/BCCI/ECB/ACB or whoever makes the decisions finally do the correct thing and scrap ODI cricket altogether and leave T20s and Tests only?

Its boring because England has failed as host. That is the main reason, this WC should be the biggest thing, a festival yet its nowhere there. Their staff, groundsman also lack the urgency or simply not passionate enough of the sport. Host failed to do their job well, even bad scheduling.
