Rahul needs to step up big time!!

Recommended Posts

With good young batsmen waiting in the ranks, Rahul needs to really up his game in the world cup to cement his spot for the next few years else may be overshadowed by the next gen..already 27 I think and still finding his feet..needs to get atleast 2 match winning daddy hundreds to seal the deal..

Has been playing like a scared kitten uptil now..afraid of getting out on every ball

He played well in his 1st 3 matches, did badly y'day but he is allowed an odd failure right? This is his 1st WC, still so much inexperienced...he has been treated so unfairly and people still target him.

barring kohli almost everyone was struggling. Wont be that harsh on him.

@Gollum  KL Rahul is coming across a mental midget so far. The way he throws away his wicket after a start is in the DK mould unfortunately. As an Indian fan, its infuriating to see his progress in international cricket. Yesterday the way he got bowled was not a pleasant sight and brought back memories of last year's England tour.

Rahul's approach in the IPL was a perfect one he can ape for the ODIs. Play risk free, classical batting and take burden on its shoulders to take the team through. Rahul has to aim playing close to 40 overs. He is just squandering the opportunity one after another.

Think he is putting lot of effort . He has given us decent starts . Also it seems batting isn’t easy out there . Yes he will improve and so far he has done ok . Either England or Bangladesh gonna feel the burn

He got start in every match but he did not convert it into big score

Now he is due couple of single digit score

All our players are doing just fine including Rahul. Fact proven by the emphatic wins despite loosing two main players.

Here is what happening on icf: Every player struggles to score at strike rate of 90- on a pitch. Kohlis scores at SR of 90+.

icf experts: we are batting too slow, as per  us, every pitch is 350-400 pitch

I ll take a 100 of 120 balls from Rahul. He has to take more responsibility

In IPL also this yr his s/r dropped specially in PP. Last yr it was 130 and this yr around 90.....Last yr he was dispatching 4th n 5th stump balls over circle clearly this yr is avoiding them. This is what happens when a player has been out of form for long. He is also not picking the length early. Kohli is the best batsman coz he picks the length early and hence is on back n front foot in right time.....whereas rahul when he doesnt pick it resorts to defence. This wont happen overnight ....will take a lot of time .

Don't see him being the problem,he has been given a job, very cruel to a guy who gets to open in English conditions and people calling for his head

Our tail starts from no.4 yes it does starts from there,so doesn't makes sense for him to go after bowling even if its a belter of wicket

Only complain from him is ,he got two opportunities to silence his critics by scoring a ton or two when he had got starts

I thought he was in pretty good form in IPL this year as well, it was just he was playing relatively more risk free and less enterprising than last year.

he is still making runs just not converting those starts into big runs....which he was doing in IPL. Diff btw IPL and International cricket....u get some week bowlers to target which is what explains thala runs in IPL to with good s/r.....yaha kahaani ulti hai.

Rahul is also more conscious here he knws its 50 overs and he has time + playing Wc for ur country will always have more pressure

Yes it's very unfair for a person to open in hostile English condition, ball swinging a lot on these  grassy pitches. Yet GOAT Rahul stood  against it

I am ok with his style of play, however it is juts just he has to elongate his efforts. He should take more responsibility and make his innings count. He has to play a senior batsman's role in this lineup now.

This is a guy who was dropped from playing 11 for bilateral series. He has got a chance in a pressure cooker situation. Expecting him to Dhawan or Kohli on biggest stage of Cricket is asking too much. Let him do the job. see out openers and average around 50. If possible, it will be great to see one match winning knock in tournament.
