Preview:

India and West Indian rivalry go way back when Indians achieved the impossible and snatched the WC from the giants in 1983 when most of us weren't even born. India is one of the strong favorites billed as potential champs coming into this edition but they're not without their own problems. ICC Tournament Superstar Shikar Dhawan has been ruled out of the tourney thereby adding more pressure to the fragile middle order leaving the Captain and the Vice Captain to shoulder most of the batting responsibilities.

To say the middle order is in a crisis is an understatement as you can very well see by the number of threads created in this section. India has to find a working middle order to solve its problems or else they could be put to the test like in the game against Afghanistan. The Indian bowling attack is in prime form defeating all the opposition batsmen so far in this tournament either by Bumrah's/bhuvi's pace or Kuldeep/ Chahal's spin and Guile. But this will be the first time they will be taking on a power hitting line up who are capable of putting most bowlers away.

The Million $ question is will Mohammed Shami, a man who will be an automatic entry in many teams will feature in the Indian Playing XI??

West Indies haven't lit up the WC as their talents promised. Russell is out of the WC as Sunil Ambris makes his way in. West Indies hopes to qualify are all but dashed but they can still make life uneasy for other teams in the competition. The Windies have some amazing talents in the middle order with Shai Hope/ Hetmyer and Nicholas Pooran but so far they haven't stepped up and held the team together. Old war horse Gayle is still smacking 50s at 40. Sheldon Cottrell is in amazing form with the ball with his swing and stellar celebration salute.

Here's to hoping for a good matchup. :fight:

Tricky game this. Indians need to handle the WI pace battery convincingly. Looking forward to hw Rahul goes. And Kulcha need to deliver, esp. Kuldeep.

Like everyone else, I'd bring in Pant in place of Shankar. Fingers crossed.

Manchester (vs Westindies) good for batsman as well but i am worried vs eng at Birmingham>> par score in last 4 innings wc

239/10

242/6

237

239 yesterday

i wish to bowl 1st on sunday.Even if we loose there we have 2 more chance ( besides today) to press for Semi.

Pacers vs Spinners at Manchester in this WC

Performance of Pacers

Overs 184 Runs Conceded 1072 Wickets 36

Average 29.78 Economy 5.83

Performance of Spinners

Overs 105 Runs Conceded 685 Wickets 6

Average 114.16 Economy 6.52

The pitch may just neutrallize India's huge advantage in the spin department. I think there is a case for playing all 3 seamers(Bhuvi, Bumrah and Shami) here.

The question of who to drop is extremely difficult.

Chahal: Pros: In form,Bowled better than Kuldeep in the tournament Cons: Too many left handers for Windies

Kuldeep: Pros: Bowled well against Pak here, Good record against LHB Cons: Out of Form

However it is very likely that both will play and the team management will be spared from the misery of picking one.

Hopefully WI can score above 300 so we can test our batting. It may happen that we have to chase that many during the KOs. Good to have decent practice before that

they score 300 and we crumble before 250..Indian batting looks fragile since Dhawan got injured.

Sad, but true.
Gabbar opening and Rahul at 4 was working out really well

Sreekanth: "Are there any thoughts that Nagraj Gollapudi does NOT have ?" --- He does reckon now that Oshane Thomas and Evin Lewis are out of the West Indies XI today. He adds that Lewis was clutching his right calf, and not walking smooth

Why are they not playing thomas???

Speaking of Nagraj, here's the latest from his espionage at OT: "Bhuvi has come, looks fit, hasn't bowled yet. Interestingly, Jaddu did bowl, but am still not sure if he will play. Shami, too, didn't warm-up yet." Nagraj does confirm later that Jadeja and Pant are definitely not in the XI. Bhuvneshwar is part of the 12, though, he says
