The logic behind giving 37th over to Munro

Recommended Posts

RRR just reached over 6.

Santner was troubling Babar and Haris.

Why would a captain bring dibbly dobly part timer into the attack at this point.

Possible reasons

a) The ball was turning

- But Munro is not a spinner he bowled Right arm medium

b) 5th bowler quota

- There were already 11 overs bowled by CDG, Neesham and Williamson combined

Munro conceded 8 and gave much needed momentum to Pakistan.

Stupid captaincy from Williamson. The required run rate was up and climbing, six main bowlers had plenty of overs left, still, you went for non regular bowlers from both ends.

Not picking Sodhi was also a big mistake from New Zealand Captain

it's because willy-boy is an intelligent and thoughtful captain on the whole, but he does not have the all-out attacking mindset of Baz. In some situations, being cautious and pragmatic is good, whereas in others it can backfire. I enjoyed baz's captaincy more than willy's, although some could argue that the latter is better than the former.

He thought we Pakistani’s would give our wicket away to a less threatening bowler. Just like Hafeez.

but hafeez was a batting allrounder for pak over the span of more than 1 decade. munro is even more of a part-timer for NZ (in terms of wkts/match) than willy. I think it was more of a temporary brainfade on willy's part.

I mean he saw that his normal plan of keeping Santher was not working. Pakistani batsmen were playing it too safe against him. So he probably thought of thinking outside of the box. Sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn’t. I gurentee you if Munro got a wicket this thread would not be existing right now.

yes, I agree this thread would not exist. but it was still a bad move with low probability of success, since munro is an all-rounder only at domestic level; in int'l matches he is pretty much treated as a specialist slogger and very rarely bowls. it's like kohli coming on to bowl, but only slightly better.

I mean its debateable if he brought in another bowler like Santher during that period the situation would be different. At that point both batsmen had adjusted to the condition. I guess I can agree that over was probably a brainfade. However I still understand why Kane would make that decision.
