Rayudu retires from all formats

Recommended Posts

Sudden retirement announcement by Ambatti Rayudu. Must be hurt at not being considered as replacement despite being in the group of standby players.

From being a shoe in for number 4 slot confirmed by Kohli just 4 months back, poor guy is now retired. Terrible handling of a player by the captain, coach and selectors despite his shortcomings.

Sad way to end a career.

Guess the 3D tweet cost him his career. Else he was in the standby list along with Pant and would have been called as Shankar's replacement.

I do hope he comes out in the media and spills the beans on the way the whole thing was mishandled by the team management and selectors.

Yes, the 3D tweet definitely cost him. His joke is okay in a private WhatsApp group but not for public consumption. One of those act in haste, repent in leisure acts that will live on in history for sure. He has now retired to get some attention while the world cup is still on and essentially protest against being bypassed as a reserve player. He is a mediocre player who should never have been in consideration for the #4 spot but Kohli unnecessarily anointed him as the chosen one only to puncture the balloon when the time came. It is strange that Rayadu's weakness was clearly called out by ICF'ers years ago but Kohli was blind to them for so long. Supporting a mediocre player is as bad as cutting lose a talented new player. Kohli is guilty of doing both - a truly "well rounded" captain.

He gets a lot of hate but his story is kind of complicated. He was considered a serious talent in his early days in early 2000s but was screwed over by BCCI and Shivalal Yadav in particular. ICL gave him a lifeline and he was one of leading Indian talents there. His good run there led to him being selected by Mumbai Indians which revived his career.

I think not graduating to top levels early in career meant he never evolved and was limited kind of player who somehow did ok but could never produce breakthrough performances.

What was his “3-D” Tweet? I missed it.

All the best to him in any of his future endeavours. He won’t be missed in any form of Indian cricket. He was lucky to win 2 IPL titles back to back.

He's 34-35. Not a young player anymore. To those of us who first heard of him during his under 17 years, it feels like he has been around forever!

Well he is a Desi. We play till were 40. I think Misbah started his career around that age so he is still a youngsta beauty.

His international career is far from over.

He will introduce biryani and cricket in iceland.

If i am being honest, even Kedar Jadav will probably call quits (or just not be selected) after this world cup. Ditto DK.

So its probably the end of the road anyways for a whole host of players. Shikar I suspect will hang around till T20 WC. Maybe they might stick around in the IPL for a few years.

In Jan 2018 Kohli had said Rahane will be team's number 4. Rahane is close to losing even his Test spot now. Same with Rayudu, Late last year Kohli said the same for him, poor guy has retired now. The curse of Kohli!

If the captain/selectors were to heed to the losers' ramblings on this negativity-infested shithole called as ICF, they will have to sack everybody else and then sack themselves too.

on a side note, he just might have seen himself in mirror from those "3D" glasses he ordered for world cup. I never liked him as a player. if 80 required from 50 he always was a burden.

That's not what he meant. He meant if even random people can figure it out then why cant the selectors

But dont hurt your back patting yourself on how you are calling out the losers on ICF while rambling yourself without even understanding the point you are replying to

ICF whines when Rayudu is still playing. ICF whines when Rayudu announces his retirement. The key point I'm trying to make is ICF whines no matter what

Rayudu had the talent but couldn't make it count due to his issues with anger. 3D comment aptly summarizes his career. Wish Rayudu a happy retirement from international cricket and success on his post-retirement endeavors. Also wish ICFers to take a chill pill and relax

It must be difficult for him, despite 2 injuries, he couldn’t get into the team squad.

So what was the use of declaring him as back-up? And why did we play this guy for the last 4 years yet choose a unproven Mayank over him?

Only Pak beghairat players play till 40s. 34 is perfect age to step aside and put youngsters over

Well that does not explain why Dhoni playing when he’s 38.

Even the usually spot on Gambhir seems to have let emotion dictate his opinion on the topic.

"Five selectors combined would not have made the runs Rayudu has in his career. I feel extremely sad about this retirement. "

"A cricketer like him that has played so well in the IPL and for the nation, scored three 100's and ten 50's, and despite that if a player has to retire - it is a sad moment for Indian cricket," Gambhir added further.

He was someone who could not bat to certain situations the way we would have liked him too and hence we al collectively did not like him. But make no mistake, the guy could bat and hence whether you cal it selfish or whatever, he could bat.

I think the guy was little immature to tweet the stuff he did and retire in such fashion but he does deserve credit for being hungry for runs, and could have walked easily into some other country’s line up, just that he did not fit in ours.

Happy Retirement to him
