Our middle order includes too many half-batsman

Recommended Posts

Apart from our top 3- including KL Rahul ( different debate on this)

we have DK a keeper-bat who has been batting at 7 or as a floater without ever put in a position to play to build an innings- not an excuse, that is the case because he is not a full batsman. Jadhav in the same category. Bats at 7. Not good enough to bat up the order or to accelerate but supposedly a batting allrounder :wall:

Pant- excuses have started for him ala Dhoni, he is young, he is a keeper bat etc etc

Pandya- a “specialist allrounder” only good for cameos

Dhoni- A guy who is fit for one role that is “stabilizing an innings” even then not good enough to bat at 5/3

Jadeja- blasphemy to criticize him today but there is no guarantee he will play an innings like this again in his next 20 matches

Vijay Shankar- he is an “allrounder”?

Bhuvi- “supposedly” a bowling allrounder

No wonder it is game over once we are 2 wickets down.

Pandya is not a Ben Stokes and Pant is not a Jos Butler. Hope they evolve into one though

Middle order is non-existent by the end of SF.

We all knew middle order was shaky with likes of Rayudu, Shankar, Jadhav, Pandey and Dhoni

What's laughable the motha fecker selectors and moron captain, went with even more panuati middle in a WC SF:

Dinesh Kathik, Pant, Pandya, Dhoni

None of them averaging 40 plus!!!!!!!!! (we all know Dhoni's form last 4 years)

The one guy averaging 40 plus we drop, Jadhav.

:hysterical:

And this before you get Shami not playing, man what a way to * yourself with two fists up the anus

Never mind half batsmen, its full of half-men. Either chubby or malnourished. Fitness regime for an international team is appalling.

Not like keto diet vegan Kohli and chick magnets with 6 packs Rahul and Pandya made a difference or even the old man who apparently wins every 100m race in training.

These guys are bits and pieces at best. Sad that this the best we got.

Should have added that mentally this team is not right either. Seem to crumble at the first sign of adversity. Having man-child coaches and captains does not help.

Pandya needs to up his game. His fans praise his bowling as he is a professional 5th bowler and a professional cameo bat. That’s actuallya definition of bits and pieces

He is a No.7 batsman in ODIs who can provide quick runs in the end overs and bowl 10 overs. It was stupid to play him at 4 and 5.

He shouldn't be playing Tests though, because he is a truly bits and pieces player there. He might get 1 wicket and score 40 runs, but that might not be good enough because he is neither accountable for his bowling nor his batting..

Also I keep hearing this that Dhoni of 2019 is not Dhoni of 2011. WTF is that supposed to mean.if he has declined he has no spot in the team. Not just on ICF but even by TV experts  I keep hearing this

The Dhoni of 2011 wasn't exactly explosive either. Have to go back to 2007 to find the uninhibited big hitter.

Same Ganguly was going gaga over Pant,Pandya and even Shankar. Last few minutes of his commentary today when Dhoni was batting was :puke:

Yes , not even  a pretence of neutrality. And probably worse, he seems to think MSD is the same player of 10 years ago

Needed to have “proper” openers. We know these guys score big on flat pitches (and there too need chances), and come up a cropper at the slightest hint of difficult conditions

Any feedback on “cameo bat- 5th bowler” Pandya?

A #6-7 batsman, who came up to soak up the pressure, scored 32, and also tried to up to scoring rate as RRR was climbing

How can someone be the 5th bowler and the no.7 batsman. Stokes is a no.5 and the 5th-6th bowler.

That defines bits and pieces. “Tried” but failed which means he cannot play a long innings.

so you are blaming   pant who has played 8 matches including 4 in this wc and pandya who has played well through out the wc, pant and pandyas job is to attack the defensive game will come with time, the blame lies with more experienced guys like Tony and dk, 5/3 Tony should have come and dk too, pant should have come next, you have to groom ur players for situations not drop them in and out and suddenly select them, pant should have been persisted with for a longer time, not rayudu, we play him we drop him, what's the point.

And openers cannot open. They tried to open but could not even play a few balls

The way he was cheerleading throughout the game today he didn’t seem like someone who had any doubts. Very convinent to rip apart after the loss. Back young talents? I think you listen to Hindi commentary, you should have heard English commentary where he made your stomach churn cheerleading for Dhoni.

As I said Manju is a better commentator than Ganguly. Calls it like it is.

He is good enough a batsman to bat at 5, give him a long run it will teach him to bat responsibly. If we want to score the way England do, the likes of him and Pant need as long as possible at the crease. He is certainly not good enough a bowler to give 10 overs every match- thought tbf he has been good this WC with the ball.

Also @vayuu1 not blaming Pant alone. Our team collectively doesn’t have one proper reliable bat. We had 3 years to groom Pant while it’s selectors fault he hasn’t grabbed his chances in LOIs with both hands either. In fact he did that in tests

You mean someone who is the top scorer in the wc?

Give that many chances to other experienced players and they would score more

So what stopped Rahul? Also every team has pair of openers are they all hitting 200s or scoring 600+ runs?

How many chances did he get? Warner has 638 runs. If he received as many chances, could have been close to 700 runs if not more. If SA dropped him, he could have won the game for Aus singlehandedly. Whereas certain someone needed multiple chances just to reach 100

For 2023 WC, the TM should invest in Pant , Pandya and the likes of Shubman Gill and/or Prithvi Shaw. These players should form the core of the middle order.  Top order has been good (Rohit, Kohli and Dhawan are not too aged either ) So, there is no need for alterations in top order till 2023.
