This is more depressing than India's loss

NZ had 3 chances

a) Could have got to 260

b) Could have caught Stokes

c) Could have got 5 of 3 in the super over

Overall, a great game. I would have given it to both the teams!

Boult had a horrid game. Dropped a catch ( could have dropped it inside) and gave away 30 runs off his last 12 balls.

Don't give a damn f**k if India isn't playing. Other than India will only be interested if Pak plays inorder to root agsinst them. End of the day one of the most entertaining cricket match that ever happened.

Our captaan would have been running up and down the field MC BC ing everyone and then during the presentation ceremony would have cried to the whole world how unlucky they are!!!! And then once he calmed doen, he would little Bewda will crawl into his auss again! :giggle:

He would have thrown a hissy fit, then come to the conference with his unique combination of fake smiles and petulant whinges. Afterwards, he and bewda would have gone away to do god-knows-what.

NZ were the better team and deserved to win but luck gave England the victory.

Lol England were the best team in the tournament. NZ may be in top 4 but definitely not better team

No. Both the teams were equal in the finals and hence tie twice which is so rare in cricket.

India.

A team with a non existent middle and lower order was the best ? England had the best balanced team with no such flaws. Appreciate the effort of winning the 4 big matches back to back unlike chokers from India.

The team which was #1 in league was the best team. They played the best regardless of their mo issues. Team which lost to SL and Pak can't be called the best. And they didn't win the final but were just lucky.

Felt really bad for Kiwis.. specially for some players like Williamson, Boult, Neesham, Taylor etc.. but some other players really didnt deserve to be in Winning WC team.. like Guptil, Nicole, Latham etc.. all good guys but common they are not ODI players..

And then you compare those to English player.. all of them are super ODI players..

All in all... Kiwis punched above their weight and they shouldnt have been in Finals in the first place.. but god they didnt deserve this heart break.. they should have lost much easier way..

I just dont get why so many Indians feel NZ deserved to win . Chasing on that pitch after losing early wickets in a WC final deserves a lot of credit , especially after seeing how India did against a same attack you should know it wasnt easy .

Stop being so salty. Yes England were very fortunate but they did not cheat.

The rules are the same for both teams and are made well in advance. They did not make them up as they went along. New Zealand knew what would happen if the super over was tied.

The overthrows were lucky for England but Stokes was not even looking at the ball when the throw was made. He did nothing illegal.

Let me ask you a question .

Would you pay a penalty for a crime that you haven't committed ?

So why should New Zealand pay for a mistake that did not make ? I know that England are not at fault here and we should just blame the stupid rules.

And by the way no one's salty here . Just rooting for the wronged side. Again I'm not saying wronged by the opponent.  Wronged by the joke that is called rules.

I'm guessing that this is a long established rule and I'm pretty sure overthrows have been given many times in the past when the same thing has happened. I'm also sure no one complained in the past or asked for the rules to be changed.

The difference was that the incident took place during the last two overs of the world cup final and that is why such a big deal is being made of this whole thing. If it was such a big issue then all teams would have lobbied to have this rule changed.

If it happened in the 20th over of the chase no one would have mentioned it.

It isn't just that, apparently England should only have gotten 5 runs from that overthrow according to the rules even when counting the overthrow boundary.

Morgan and Kane look so sane and mature compared to our immature ,fake ,hypocrite, overrated captain.

Overrated captain because he lost 1 game(which can happen to any side in ODIs), no matter India finished on top in league stage ? What mature, genuine, underrated fans we have.

That was the umpire's fault and again if it had happened in the 20th over no one would have batted an eyelid.

India were hampered by Dhawan's injury .Middle order did all right when needed be it jadav vs Afg or Jadeja dhoni vs nz.India had themselves to blame for tactical selection errors.

Only Eng was most likely to have chased this. Wonderful effort! .... If NZ were chasing, I am not sure even if they would have come close.

Imo England were extremely lucky to chase 240.
openers got exposed against swing and middle order collapsed.Butler was only one who played aggressively. We blame Dhoni but stokes did same thing just got lucky in the end.

Exactly. Everyone seems to concentrating on those overthrows , forgetting that England did a most of the hard work getting close to the target and probably deserved all the luck .

As I wrote somewhere - "That is not how the game works. The last ball was a full toss which Stokes could have hit for a 6. The only reason he played it along the ground was that it was not worth the risk of getting out. If that risk was required, the ball could have gone for a 6. From a different perspective, the 4 overthrows made Stokes take no risk, which in turn helped NZ to tie

The overthrow may have actually helped NZ to tie the game :dontknow:

Yeah we will never know , ifs and buts - could have gone either ways ,  like every close cricket game isn’t it ?
