Blah,  with frequent & unplanned power cuts I don't see how this revolution is possible. Also public transport FTW, we need that more than any other gimmick pushing more private vehicles in our already overcrowded cities!

within a decade indians will be riding electric two wheelers...

with even railways being fully electric, I suspect India's oil imports might just stagnate or fall...

That is way optimistic.  Big issue with logistics needs to be addressed.  The railway freight corridor project is going to have a massive impact when it is finally finished.  It will replace literally millions of trucks polluting and clogging up Indian roads.  Its going to be great.

I for one am a backer of public transport. But surely sometimes for those journies that are not feasible using public transport you need electric.

Dedicated Bus corridors are the most cost efficient way to implement public transport in most urban areas.  And it would be easy to convert them to electric power too.   Indian govt should be looking at implementing this solution all across the country, especially in tier 2, tier 3 cities, even smaller ones.   It would be an investment that would pay for itself many times over, and increase quality of life for people.

Not at all. India as a country skipped desktops to move to laptops. We skipped fixed telephone lines to move to mobiles/smartphones.

The key in all of this is solid state batteries. If there are solid state batteries you will be able to charge your entire 80km-100km range electric moped battery in 30-60min at home just like your smartphone, inside your home . It becomes much more efficient than waiting in line to fill expensive petrol.

We need to straighten up our transmission .

We have enough power...just really bad transmission. We need to work on that and power theft.

Govt is pushing for more electric 2-4 wheelers. Soon petrol and deisel will become too expensive .Electric vehicles will probably be subsidised or taxed less.

Electric is the way to go.

That's not true anymore, while T&D losses did make for a lot of stress for power companies & govt in the last few decades. That's not the case anymore. Then there's "clean power" as coal generated electricity is much more harmful than petro based solutions.

Electric for public transport is the way to go, if we're just pushing for more private vehicles then we'll only wait half a day in traffic jams - as opposed to 6 hours in certain places today? Also petro fuels will not be replace by electricity anytime soon, there's convenience & also range. We also won't see the demise of ICE for at least half a century more, how do you think govt will earn if  petrol consumption nose dives? They'll probably just reduce the taxes & spur even more consumption.

TATAs have already launched a car that runs 1000kms in one charge.

It is pricey right now but in a few years  with govt help the price and be reduced .

Electric two wheelers are already there in the market.

E ricks now form the majority of the last mile connectivity in metros. Won't take too long for them to replace all polluting autos .
