Indian Team can try 4 combination for next home series and all of them can be very exciting projects

  1. Three Man Pace attack using reverse swing as weapon- Ashwin n Jadeja as all rounder together give India an Option of playing Shami, Umesh and bumrah together as pace attack. Shami n umesh have been excellent at home with SG ball using reverse swing to full advantage now Add bumrah to the mix who ll be lethal with reverse swing. Opposition will have no chance to win against this attack as their wud be no respite . Opposition can be wrapped in no matter of time. Other side of this Idea- Bumrah can be rested in these series and his workload can be managed, neways shami n umesh have been excellent or India cud play 3 spinners with kuldeep. India cud also throw in youngsters like Saini n Siraj at home
  2. Getting Kuldeep Back in Form- Kuldeep has struggled with form and confidence in last few months, it can be ideal for him to play home series and get some wkts which will help him gain his confidence back. If 3 man pace attack sounds exciting, 3 spinner attack is as lethal idea . Other Side of this Idea- During this time kuldeep can go back to domestic n work on his issue. He has been using his body a lot more in action...playing at home being the main bowler of his side he ll get a lot more overs then with ashwin jadeja around. Also pressure wud be less in domestic game as compare to international game
  3. Developing Hardik the all rounder- for years India have been wanting a seaming all rounder for overseas. Finally we got one...but if we only play him in tough games his number will be always dodgy which will not help his confidence and media pressure will always be on him. Getting good score in India will help his confidence and give him some breathing space. His bowling will also improve as he wil just get very few overs to bowl where he crank up his pace n even bowl reverse. Playing test cricket always help in growth of a player. 2 spinner 2 pacer attack have proven to be enough for us in last few years so this chance can be taken to develop hardik . Playing in India will mosly benefit hardik the batsman plus it will be an X-factor to have pandya n pant at 6-7 who can change the game in no matter . Other side of this Idea- Hardik can also go back to domestic n work on his game but playing against better opponents is always a quicker way to learn which is international cricket. Not playing him in test in India can also give him break managing his workload to
  4. Developing the 6th batsman - India have also become a lil hesitant of 5 bowler theory post ENG n SA debacle. Rahane n openers inconsistency hasnt helped either. India can look to give that 6th batsman a chance to find his feet - Vihari, Rohit (sadly), Gill. Other side of the story - this idea more often then not ends up being Project Rohit which has screwed us in long run time n again. Kohli shastri has already screwed nair career, knowing their lack of patience i fear same of Shubhman gill as well. Also Five bowler theory was terrific why go away from it

All 4 are good ideas, i like top 3 ideas the best Which one will you choose ?

None. Horses for courses and win all home test.

We have to play 6 test in Aus and NZ which amount to 240 points.  Minus 1 series each in Aus and NZ we havent done well. Get as many points as we can during home series so we can take few hits then.

We have been No 1 test side for a while now, we have to be in final. No point developing players if we arent in finals.

In home series, rest Bumrah .Save him for overseas. Play him occasionally at home when he needs match practice.Do the same with Shami too. This means they can try Saini in tests. Kuldeep can be groomed to be a spinning allrounder at 8/9.

Don't see the point of trying to make Hardik toil in Indian pitches. He should only play overseas if pitch has some help. Jadeja should play ahead of him as all-rounder in most test matches.

So,home series bowling attack can be:

Umesh/Ishant,Saini,Ashwin,Jadeja,Kuldeep

6th batsman is unnecessary at home.

Gill & if possible Rituraj should be given chances at home resting 1 senior every game.

5 batsman,1 keeper,5 bowlers(2-3 all rounders) should be enough to win every series.

Home series is the best time to try out 2-3 new pacers like Saini, Avesh etc. Test is the best form of cricket to make a debut, because you just have that kind of extra time.

If you dont do it now, it will never be done.

As good as he is in ODI's, Hardik is not a cut out for tests. Play pure batsmen and bowlers. Something we missed out doing even in ODI's during WC.

either kuldeep can play or 6th batsman ...both cant be in XI together unless u drop jadeja or ashwin which cant n shudnt happen

Kuldeep should get his chance and extra batsman need to be developed. May not play at the same time but bench is strong.

During home series, especially against weaker teams, it is important to develop ...

A)  a couple of new pacers with pace, bounce  and accuracy

B)  a couple of new batters who have both back foot and front foot games. So that they can play bounce, swing and spin.

C)  a young wrist spinner who can do well both home and away.

Our problem is that we have used test series in Asia to give TTFs chances ... like Dhawan and Rohit.  They come up with decent performances only to fcuk us in tests outside Asia.  And give debuts to a very average Shardul who does not look like a test prospect.

This is where long term planning is needed.

Build the team you want for tests outside Asia, while playing in Asia.

1. Shaw .... Point A

2. Mayank

3. Pujara

4. Kohli

5. Gill .... Point A

6. Pant

7. Jadeja

8. Ashwin

9. Kuldeep .... Point C

10. Shami. (  our best pacer on Asian tracks )

11. Saini / Avesh .... ( rotate them )    Point B

Pandya has to evolve as a batsman period. In fact this is not just for tests but even for ODIs.

Stokes or even Shakib can be unfit to bowl the entire series but they will still be in the starting line up for their respective teams. Same can’t be said about Pandya

T20 he is a must.

Right now the closest player in the Pandya category in world cricket  is Grandhomme. Most of the Pandya supporters who make fun of Grandhomme will be the first to jump on the Pandya bandwagon.

shaw won't be returning for a while. time to look at panchal and easwaran. also, I would like to look beyond ashwin. Ashwin has consistently failed to deliver abroad, his batting has been sliding, and even his home bowling isn't great. time to give gopal or rahul chahar a go I think. both of them are multi-dimensional, especially gopal, and bowl wrist spin.
