Feroz Shah Kotla to be renamed as Arun Jaitley Stadium

Unnecessary move. Who would want to say they scored a test century or a fifer in the Arun Jaitley stadium instead of doing the same in the FSK. Anyway it was not the most storied ground in India to begin with. Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru are more famous than FSK. Atleast if they renamed it after some past cricketer, that would make more sense than naming after a politician. Our people will never change. There are tons of highways, roads, streets, bridges named after Gandhi, Nehru, Indira because they named it themselves or by close kin. BJP is the next congress. Long live the glorious make benefit nation of India where people in power are more intent in showing off their power and indulge in grandiosity and vanity than doing something to make the nation better. This will only alienate those minorities that have no problem with bjp or modi. Ironically padosis will be satisfied as this will only give more justification for the two nation theory. More padosi news drama incoming. Immy the dimmy will complain to the UN over this

The site where the stadium lies was part of one of the new cities of Delhi constructed by Firuz Tughlaq. The area around it still has many monuments dating back to the times of the Sultans.

It's the same place where Bhagat Singh and his comrades held a conference of revolutionaries drawn from across the country where they espoused the principles of secularism and patriotism and officially relaunched HSRA.

Bilkul hi bachkana move. But what more you expect from illiterates of BJP.

I don't know if you have seen it but I grew up around that area. Delhi Gate is right close to it and the place has nothing but historic significance.

And moreover between this place and Maulana Azad Medical College there were other historic structures and people use to climb over those and watch matches.

Stupid move.

I have been to the area and was fascinated by the ruinous historical architecture.

What next, rename Hauz Khas to Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Public Park?

You guys who were meekly accepting Rajiv Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, Nehru named places, are having your tighty whities in a twist. Enjoying this. You guys deserve a ground named afterTughlaq who...'The Sultan captured Cuttack, desecrated the Jagannath Temple, Puri, and forced Raja Gajpati of Jajnagar in Orissa to pay tribute."

It's done by DDCA, not BJP. Jaitley was former DDCA president.

It doesn't work like that @coffee_rules.

The ground is at the historical city established by Firuz and thus has a lot of significance in view of our medieval chronicles.

Regarding his Jehadi activities, why stop at Firuz then, why not just rename anything even remotely related to our Islamic past since let's be honest almost all the major Muslim rulers probably held the similar views (with notable exceptions such as Akbar etc).

And wait why do you presume that those who are criticising this move were the ones who silently accepted Congress era renaming spree? Two wrongs don't make a right.

Err, you do realise, they are not renaming the Kotla area but just the cricket stadium. Nothing is being done to the ruins from the Tughlaq era, around a KM walk from the stadium.  Feroz Shah Kotla is the name of the fort complex, the erstwhile capital city of Ferozabad.

Because you brought silly politics into it, there is an Ambedkar Stadium right next to Kotla Stadium. And was named so by the ‘extremely literate’ Congress in 2007. Not just that, the area has a Gandhi museum, Gandhi academy of naturopathy, Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan park and so on. Apparently all that was acceptable but god forbid DDCA names it’s cricket stadium after its long serving ex-president, suddenly it’s an attack on heritage and all!

Arun Jaitley was a DDCA president, Bengaluru stadium is named after Chinnaswamy who was a KSCA president. So, what's the BFD?

Why is it so wrong? Instead of naming a ground after a person who comitted heinous crimes, why not a clean politician?

Aur banate raho, Tughlaq marg, Lodhi road Auranzeb road . worst being, naming the nearest junction  to Nalanda after a person who destroyed Nalanda in its golden period (Bhaktiyar)

Bhai rehnede ..We all know who are all behind this idiocy .

There is renaming samaroh in JNS on 12th September . Go and find the invites.

12th Sept function was pre-planned and DDCA was going to officially name one of the stands at Kotla after Virat Kohli. They’ll use the same function to now name the stadium after Arun Jaitley.

If you know anything about Delhi cricket in the last 25 years or so, there will hardly be a soul opposed to this move given Jaitley’s immense contribution as an administrator of DDCA.
