FischerTal Posted November 9, 2019 Share Posted November 9, 2019 A friend of mine comes from a family of farmers in India. They own quite a bit of land. Recently, he became a naturalized US citizen. Now, India doesn't allow dual citizenship, so would he still be eligible to be called a farmer in India? Can he purchase land in the future despite being a foreign citizen and whatever land is already registered in his name, would there be any problems with that in the future? Mariyam Posted November 9, 2019 Share Posted November 9, 2019 To answer your queries to the best of my knowledge: He can be a farmer in India if he seeks permission from the relevant state government and engages or promotes agricultural activities in the state. He cannot purchase further agricultural land in India. However he gets to keep all the agricultural land he has acquired before he became a naturalized US citizen.
