Selection chairman Trevor Hohns believes the young Victorian batsman Will Pucovski's self-aware decision to withdraw from Australia's reckoning for the first Test of the summer against Pakistan should be a source of praise rather than penalty, as Cricket Australia works to get to grips with the burgeoning issue of mental health.

Im all for managing mental health in players considering the ever hectic schedule and expectations.. but why is it that only SENA country players cite 'mental health' issues to take a break. I have never heard an Indian player using this reason to withdraw from squads.. our players are the most scrutinised, most followed and most prone to fan reactions when results go wrong.. food for thought.

western people are majorly into depression mental health issues etc, they like taking long breaks for this purpose and generally do fun stuff during that time. Indians mostly dont give a * about it and wait till the clinical depression becomes something more serious and then call the poor guy  'mental' or something like that.  two ends of the spectrum really.

Because in India mental health/depression issues are being looked down upon.
