Can Kohli beat Tendulkar to most ODI centuries by 200+ innings?

Yes he can. New Odi rules have made super easy to score 100s for top 3. No disrespect to Kohli, he is cut above his peers in ODIs but even guys like Babar Azam have stellar records in ODIs in these days

It took 79 innings for tendu to score his 1st 100. Doubt modern players can survive that lol also they don't have mumbai mafia backing like someone else!

Some players have gone all their careers without scoring a single 100 outside the SC. Hint hint

Sachin used to bat low down the order and unselfishly score quick runs for the team and once he started opening records tumbled.

:gossip: contradicting much ? Atleast that hint hint guy has man of the match in WC finals unlike some choker *Hint Hint*

Even if you compare those opening records to kohli he is still behind. *Tuk Tuk*

Obsession with 100s continue. In the recent WC, the best inning for Ind was the one that Jadeja played (and not a 100 scored by any batsman) .... in CT, it was the inning played by Pandya .... the performances ppl remember

Many Ind modern top order batsmen are formulaic in their approach to score 100s (at times at the expense of team’s interest in LOIs) so 100s don’t carry the same weight anymore in ODIs. Saw one batsman score 4-5 100s, many pointless, in the last WC after getting multiple chances

PS KW and Stokes 50s are more prized than any 100 scored by Ind batsmen in the WC19

This obsession of Indian batsmen and Indian Cricket fans with 100s is an age old one. May be it all started when SMG became highest century maker in test cricket back in 80's after he surpassed Don Bradman's record. And then how the Indian fans were all waiting for 100th 100 of SRT is a well documented piece of evidence of this obsession.

Having said this, I don't think that "the best inning for Ind was the one that Jadeja played". The match was already lost when Jadeja entered and he did not win the match for India. He got out playing his shots and even at his exit, the match was in NZ's favor. But then it is a good innings nevertheless.

KW and Stokes 50's are indeed prized. Here Stokes 84* is extremely good and probably better than any innings played by Indian batsman in WC 2019 but then it is not Stokes fault he did not make a 100. He did what he could to take his team across the line(here they reached the line) and the innings is over. His innings is no less than a 100 in real value terms similar to MSD's 91* in WC 2011 final or Gambhir's 97 in the same match.

And all the innings you were referring to are low scoring matches where both the teams did not get a 250 runs in an innings. In such matches, a very good 70-80 odd is equivalent to a 100 in a high scoring match where both teams perhaps made 300 runs around.

My bottom line is scoring 100 is still a very good thing that need not be put down. NOT scoring a 100 could also mean valuable like in the cases you cite, but that does not mean we put down the centuries scored by our or any batsmen. I agree that we need not be stat obsessed by centuries like the topic of this thread.

No it was the 90 odd by Rohit vs Pak and his Knockout in the semis.

Pandya’s knock was just a low pressure swing your bat as there is no alternative type situation. I rate his knock in the first game vs Pak in CT higher.

Same with Jadeja, he couldn’t finish the game but good effort.

Pandyas CT knock is one of the most overrated knocks out there. It’s no different from Umesh Yadavs recent 6 hitting spree
