Mayank Agarwal has named as the replacement for injured Shikhar Dhawan in the three-match ODI series against West Indies

“Dhawan suffered a deep cut on his left knee during a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy game against Maharashtra in Surat. The BCCI Medical Team assessed him on Tuesday to review the healing of his wound. The BCCI Medical Team has suggested that Dhawan needs some more time for his stitches to come off and his wound to heal completely,” BCCI had then stated in a statement.

If Shikhar Dhawan is ruled out of the ODI series as well, it remains to be seen who will replace him in the line-up. If the sources are to be believed, the selectors might continue with Sanju Samson as they are willing to explore more options at the top of the order. Also, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are the other two openers in the squad who will most likely open the innings.

Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill, along with Prithvi Shaw are also in the fray to replace Shikhar Dhawan for the ODI series. While Agarwal is now a regular in the Tests for India, Shaw made his Test debut last year against West Indies before getting injured and ruled out ahead of the Australia Tests. Both are yet to feature in the ODIs though Agarwal had got a late call-up to the World Cup squad earlier this year to replace Vijay Shankar.

Shubman Gill, on the other hand, was a part of the number four experiment ahead of the World Cup and played a couple of ODIs on New Zealand tour.

Bring in both Gill and Shaw and play them.

An ODI series at home against this WI bowling is the ideal situation for these young talents to acclimatize to international cricket.

Yes, we need to start preparing for next WC. Dhawan, Rohit may not last or in the best form at that time. Bring new openers against weaker teams. Rest Kohli for some games as well. Need to mix and mash experience and youth.

My dream team -

Shaw

Rahul/Mayank

Gill

Samson

Iyer (c)

Pant (k)

Dube/Pandya

Sundar

Bhuvanesh/Chahal

Chahar

Saini

Just hoping for kohli and rohit to just rest and let the youngsters express themselves. Never gonna happen though.

The above line up will even win against current Indian team.

Rahul will slot in,we are unlikely to see anyone new at the top,the middle order though will be interesting there's no way Dube and Jadhav  can make up 10 overs so we could have Pant/Jadeja/Dube at 5,6,7.The fact that both were picked in the same squad shows the ineptitude of the selectors.

I think Mayank would come in and rightly deserves his chances. List A  track record superior to every one playing now can't be ignored for ever. Hope he goes on to be the 2nd '2 main  format'  batsman in the team after Kohli. Infact he has been one of the scapegoats of this incompetent TM.Should have been included  in the ODI team years before.

Mayank is the rightful next in line.

Gill is not an opener so currently not slot available.

Shaw needs to go back to the drawing board for a while. A player banned for violation no matter on purpose or not has to work his way back up.

Samson as people have said needs to earn his stripes in ODIs. For T20s he is fine as he has been an IPL star.

Shaw has been scoring runs in every innings after his return.  And paying at a very high SR.

Batting very fluently.

Exactly Shaw should be definitely part of one of the 2 Loi format. He has this Sehwag spark of batting at high SR no matter the situation which is rare in current indian batting lineup.
