1.3 excellent response, the line goes a bit wider and the length fuller but well short of a driving length, especially on this bouncy surface. Shaw has been eager to drive on the up today, but he stays a little leg-side of the ball at all times, and early in his innings that can make him play inside the line, especially when the ball is angling away from him. He does so here, and gets a thin edge through to de Kock 10/1

4.3 taken at midwicket! And all the credit should go to the bowler. First because he follows Shaw, who is trying to make room to access the off side again. Then he puts in enough effort that he derives extra bounce - which is beyond hard on this Delhi pitch. The batsman is cramped and he's committed to the big shot. Ends up with a slog that comes off the high part of the bat and ends up in Watson's hands 36/1

2.6 what a catch! Length ball angles in towards Shaw, and he gets the outside edge as Shaw looks to drive this from the crease, and it takes a big edge and flies away towards where first slip would have been. Karthik flies away to his right, and gets it within his mitts. Stupendous work, that should lift Kolkata Knight Riders after an expensive over from Prasidh Krishna! 32/1

1.5 got him extra bounce does the trick. Kept it on a hard length but close to the off stump, not at cutting width. Shaw went for the cut anyway, but only ends up edging it behind. Khaleel's successful immediately on his return 11/1

3.3 caught behind! Good length and a bit of extra bounce! He tried to cut, gets a thin edge to Patel who caught it on his chest! Hang on? They're checking upstairs to see if Patel put the ball on the ground after he was hit in the chest by the ball as he clutched onto it. He doubled over in pain but he didn't put the ball down on the ground. Bizarre catch but a catch nonetheless. 35/1

Fast forward to this series

7.6 nibbles at one and has to go! Shaw was looking to stay leg side and run it down, the hint of movement leaves him in two minds. By the time he tried to withdraw the bat, it was too late. Straightforward catch for Latham 50/1

IN the process of giving room outside the off stump, he gets into a tangle far too often. His game has to be tighter than this as an opener. He also top edges with his pull a lot. I know he is a pull shot player. But because of him giving room through off side all the time lands him in trouble.

Good Observation . Ball most likely to get him the hard length ball around off stump with a bit of bounce and moving away . Grandhomme  most likely to trouble him.

Do not seem to have much problem when balls seams in , he plays it on onside quite well . Does not get bowled often .

Its the rising in between length ball around off that he generally nicks .

Compulsive nature. At young age you don't really feel like leaving a lot of balls. Age is on his side to make the necessary correction.  He just has to make a mental mark of the height. ANything goes over that height in the off side channel he should let it go. He plays incoming deliveries better unlike some of our seniors Pujara, Rahane, Rahul all had issues from time to time with incoming deliveries.

In fact i loved the way these 2 new guys faced up in that game .  Ball was moving even till 16-17 overs .

You won't get that much movement in 9 out 10 one dayers . Kid has very very good shot making ability , only thing is he over attacks , almost every ball . Once he tempers down a bit and avoids attacking those balls which takes his wicket , he will be great addition at the top.

For me  he is must at the top both in T20 & 50 overs  to get  that big push in PP which is India's problem.

Mentally very strong and a confident player. He is here to stay.

This was always knwn but i dont think it will be that much of a worry since he is such a positive player and i dont think many bowler can bowl at that spot consistently around the world

I do feel there is improvement in the way he plays balls coming in now than in 2018  WC time.

About Darshan's delivery , its a dream ball . No shame in getting out to that .

Another area where he could get out is point as he doesn't hit to the ground. He hits in the air through that region. If they place two fielders close together he could be in trouble.  If you look at Shubman Gill , against the same length he gets on top of the ball and taps it on the ground. He has immense potential. But he shouldn't let these things stifle his career.

I m am not worried much about point area ,as he slashes real hard and opens up whole of that area over point, cover point , square thirdman .

With his height could be what he is doing is the best option rather  than trying to get on top of it .

He is very much like Sehwag who used to play similarly, used to get bowled so many times trying to make room.

You are may be forgetting that he is foot or so shorter than Sehwag and thats very critical for power and reach. Also with such little height Shaw will be strangled against the Tall pacy fast bowlers , case in point Starc ,Irfan, Nortje .

Same height as Tendulkar and 5 cm less than Sehwag...yeah that sounds about 1 foot in Pakistan.

As far as tall pacy bowlers are concerned, we will have to wait for that. The sample we have of him is smashing Shannon Gabriel on the way to a 100 and half century in his debut test series.

Not sure there is any logic in this past. WHy would a tall fast bowler will strangle him.  Against Australia A he made 66 in 69 balls Aaron Hardie picked up 4 wickets he was 193 cm. Jackson coleman the other pace man 196 cm.

Man the Pak U19 poyz seemed like midgets! Whats up with that? Atleast the short Indian bats like Pant and Shaw pack a real wallop when they go afetr the bowling. Those Pak kids looked useless even at the U19 level :giggle:
