Do Kohli's weird moves have some ulterior political motives?

Recommended Posts

There are certain moves Kohli made on this tour look suspicious. It is almost like he wanted some guys to fail because he doesn't like their selection. As much as we think Kohli likes Thakur, he always used Thakur at the worst possible time. Opening the bowling with him, bringing him on when batsmen are set.

Second Jadhav.  Not a single over was given to Jadhav despite him dismissing Kane williamson, Taylor, Nichols last time when we toured here.  Even when Kuldeep was going at 8 an over.

Not playing Pant for 7 matches. It is definitely weird. No chance even in dead rubber match. He thought it was a great idea to give practice to Agarwal and Shaw ahead of Test series. But didn't think about giving practice to his backup wicket keeper.

nope- at the end of the no captain wants to loose or make bad team coz it ll cost him his job.

Simple kohli has no patience which is the answer to every problem of his captaincy

  1. Why he chokes - coz in every game a situation will come when ur team will be under pump he looses patience n its shows on his body languages. If captain body langues goes down so does everyones
  2. Why he chops n changes- coz he has no patience , he is a reactive captain for him every idea is good till it fails once....whereas other stuck by their plans.
  3. Why he doesnt have eye for talent - he does but lack of patience doesnt allow him to keep faith in his instincts

In the end problem with many great players being captain have been same having similar output as themselves which is not possible.

Always tenuous to extrapolate on specific tactical choices during a game -they can be innocent when viewed one way, and malicious when another.

That is why you need to look at a larger data set when you are attempting to draw inferences.  Looking at Kuptaan Virat's selection choices over the span of 2+ years, certain trends emerge which have a more sounder basis in data, than the couple of anecdotes you are interpreting in your post.

  • Kuptaan Wrogn is an extreme fundamentalist believer in the gospel truth of 'seniority'.  Always has been.  When in doubt, the senior player will always get the benefit of doubt ahead of the young rookie.  Whether that's for selection, or for turning to a full-time bowler ahead of a part-timer.  Its very easy to predict what he will go for, almost always.
  • His captaincy is like his batting - he likes to manage and minimize risk, and maintain control.  He is all-in on the concept of the top 3 batsmen in the batting unit being the "heroes", and the middle order are "supporting characters".  And consequently, there is a unspoken but unsubtle class system in the Indian batting unit.  The supporting characters are constantly given the dirty job of 'speeding up the team runrate' as soon as they get to the crease, or worse, rebuild after the heroes fail, and still get blamed.  Just a couple of 'failures' in games where Kuptaan wanted to win, and you fail, and you will find yourself out of the team quicker than you can say Ambaatli.

Good post. He does have his favorites for whom he'd go the extra length to accommodate them in the team. But he's no Dhoni - the true Machiavelli.

I can give a pass for Thakur's repeated selection. But not using someone deliberately for all the matches raises doubts. He did use Jadhav last time when Dhoni was the keeper.  About Pant, i wonder if Pant really said something in private that Kohli didn't like. Even the most inept captain would have given a chance to his back up wicket keeper.  Almost every commies were talking about these two issues. Not giving overs to Jadhav and not using Pant at all. I am sure it would have reached the drunk coach.  Kohli can be daft with quiet a lot of moves. But he also does play this enforcer role something we attribute to ineptness.

After 5 years of Kohli as captain, it’s safe to say he’s mostly a clueless captain who relies mostly on individual brilliance and lacks the strategic nouns

yes. He has given enough proof for ineptness like not using Sundar inside power play. KL Rahul as a captain used him inside power play and got rewarded. But he has also shown favoritism like bringing Rohit sharma back into Tests. Pant's sidelining is most probably something to do with keeping Dhoni in the radar.

Don't give brat much credit. He is by all possible means a rudderless idiot. He is clueless 90% of the times.  He believes if he or rohit fail,  India will lose no matter what. He doesn't trust other players. Ankit and sandeep both have beautifully written what goes on in his pea brain. He lacks direction or strategy. All he has is a foul mouth only to get embarrassed time and again. I really am waiting for this guy to retire or at least give up captaincy. Such a stale job he does,  he has a template which he follows every bit even his ass getting whooped.  He is a born loser.

he isn't brainy enough to be doing all this nefarious stuff. he has only 3 brain cells. one is for batting, one is for bootlicking MSD, "seniors" and bewda, and the last one is for BC-MC (and hiding it from public view these days).

I feel the same. He even said once that #4 batting spot is not that important. He only picks players who aren't a threat to his arrangement of big 3 superstars dominating the show with 1-2 insignificant, non threatening sidekicks.

if one combined Rat's petulance, seniority-itis, and Thakur-fetishism with MSD's Machiavellianism, what one would get is a rather frightening (and deplorable) character.

Isn't Thakur a specialist bowler? What's his role in the team then if he can't bowl to a set batsman?

Pant is not an opener to bat him at 1-2.
