Definitely. Imran, Wasim, Waqar are in no way comparable to bowlers with similar avg/SR. Imran also was lucky with home umpiring, him and Miandad were undisputed crooks of the 70s/80s.

Don't forget bottle caps.

Nothing can be officially done w.r.t this because he has been the beneficiary  of ' primarily pre multi camera days & then  lack of neutral umpires' .

Times have changed and we all are aware as to  what happened  to a brilliant batsman like Steven Smith who just happend to be the captain of that AUS team which cheated. I think 'handling of Smith'  needs to be taken as the template in judging  the cricketing achievements  & there by the greatness of a chronic ball tamperor like Imran  by the lovers of the game who believe in integrity, honesty, ethics & fair play. Based on that, I for one  just can't   take the credentials of this cheater as such  any more . If I am to rate the ATG all rounders, I  would definitely take this criteria into account

On a side note, huge  respects to  Balwinder Sandhu  who had proclaimed years back that he can't take the stats of this cheater as such

Bingo, so many Pak wins in 2010s have '*' attached. Him and Hafeez......thank god for the 2014 Asia Cup, otherwise their naatak would have continued.

Once more cameras started being used notice how records of the Ws began to dip, alarmingly in case of Waqar. Since then no ATG quick from padosiland, best they produced is Shoaib but then even he occasionally chucked, look at the ball that dismissed Sachin for 98 in 2003 WC. Guys like Amir, Asif, Gul, Rana could never become all conditions bowlers. But had someone like Sami debuted in the 80s I am sure Imran would have made him a sub-25 avg bowler, he had pace, attacked stumps, just needed some knives and bottle caps for late deviation, and Shakoor Rana, Khizr Hayat for a few more bat before wickets. Anyone remember Aaqib Javed's Sharjah exploits? All he had to do was hit the pad or bat close to pad.

Similarly look at their spinners, once ICC decided to clamp down on chucking they have stopped producing mystery offies. Their best spinner is someone who averages 100+ in southern hemisphere at an ODI E/R.  But credit to Yasir, apart from the doping bit he has played the game fair, by Pakistani standards he is a saint. Saqlain sans doosra was pretty mediocre and in tests always overrated, Mushtaq Ahmed was a class bowler but a league below Kumble. Qadir had all the magic tricks but not much to show for in terms of performance, not a home bully (like many other SC greats) and away his bowling stats read like Kohli's batting average, SR. Unnecessarily hyped because 80s was a dire decade in spin department.

Pakistan's current ranking doesn't surprise me. This is their aukaat, cricket has never been fairer and hence the results we see. Their superior stats (historically) are mainly because of home umpiring, chucking, tampering etc.

Biggest injustice was Pak winning 1992 WC, that kind of luck has never been seen since then in any sporting contest. Without 92 Imran would have no legacy. Pak had no right to be in the last 4, Crowe's unfortunate injury and Botham's dismissal come much later.

This discussion keeps cropping up periodically in print and electronic media across various platforms. However, I don't think those records can be stripped. It's something like Murali. By the time he was found as a chucker, he had taken 600 wickets. It's impossible to Chuck the records of those two players at this stage. The wickets taken by Muralitharan, Imran, Narine, Ajmal, Hafeez and Akhtar will always be talked about for negative reasons.

not only that their  ' level of  performance' & hence their 'level of greatness'   also   should  only be evaluated based on these factors.

Muralitharan has a natural deformity in his arm which worked to his advantage. It's not his fault but still, it was unfair to batsmen. Akhtar was worse - another beneficiary of a natural deformity, and at his pace a threat to batsmen's safety.
