This is my list in order of merit of the batsmen who were hardest to bowl to.It does not asess class but the level of domination or extent to which bowlers wee subjugated.

Viv Richards

Don Bradman

Barry Richards

Virendra Sehwag

Brian Lara

Adam Gilchrist

Rohan Kanhai

Sachin Tendulkar

AB Devilliers

Chris Gayle

Gary Sobers

Walter Hammond/Everton Weekes

Inzamam Ul Haq

Kevin Pieterson

No batsmen intimidated great bowling as much as Viv,in any conditions. The Don was not as punishing but as effective as Viv,and the ultimate batting machine.Barry Richards was a more refined form of Viv taking domination to spheres not traversed.Sehwag could create impact of a dynamite exploding from the very start surpassing the strike rate of any batsmen.Lara was more mercurial than any batsmen when set with the creativity of a magician.Gilchrist intimidated bowlers like a swordsman punishing convicts.Kanhai simply took batting art to another dimension surpassing regions of even Bradman.Tendulkar came close to perfection than anyone else, bar Barry Richards. unsurpased in modern times.AB Devilliers was the Viv Richards of his day resmbling a circus acrobat when batting.,imagination.Chris Gayle was the ultimate epitome of destructive power.Sobers displayed mastery at a level rarely ever seen on cricket field.Hammond was unfortunate to play in same era of Bradman but at times could even surpass him in skill.Weekes was like an incarnate of Bradman in his day taking domination to a crescendo few ever did.Inzamam played pace with greater ease than even Tendulkar or Lara and on his day could be as flamboyant as anybody.Kevin Pieterson was capable of sending the ball all over the par against the best bowling.

Tendu

Ab

Sir Gary

Smith

Sehwag was difficult to get out once set but most intimidating and most difficult to bowl are 2 different things, sehwag has also been made to look like tailender in certain conditions, that is why you need to have a certain criteria, I haven't seen much of Barry and 3Ws or Graeme pollack, atleast sir Gary's classics are available, of modern batters none more difficult than  Smith, guy is absolute clutch and puts  every bowler under pressure  and have dominated teams in almost every conditions, yes Kohli is undisputed odi king, but he is a bottler in knockouts ,Kohli has better skills no doubt, but it's grit and determination plus temperament that makes Smith superior.
