Guest HariSampath
Harbhajan Singh has been suspended from the DLF IPL, following the match referee Farokh Engineer reviewing video evidence. There would be an enquiry into it on Monday in Delhi, but Bhajji will not be able to take part in the IPL pending resolution of the issue. Well done by BCCI, although this seems to be an unavoidable decision, and done with saving the face of BCCI, Indian cricket and the IPL market impact. graphic23
A BCCI press release has just landed: "Based on prima facie video evidence as seen and reviewed by the match adjudicator and referee Mr. Farokh Engineer from the tapes provided by Sony & TWI. A decision has been reached to suspend with immediate effect Mr. Harbhajan Singh of the Mumbai Indians pending the inquiry into the incident on Monday, April 28th 2008" ^ - Cricinfo. Cool stuff. Ram
T'was inevitable. Something had to be *seen* to be done, given what a protracted visual spectacle it was and all the controversy that the incident created. Adios Bhajj!
Guest HariSampath
Evidence had been taken from multiple camera footage , most of which are not shown on TV coverage, as also the immediate evidence of players present in the vicinity of the incident. There had also been dozens of other media cameras, photographers who were on the spot immediately after the match was over. Bhajji is reportedly consulting with his attorneys on his next course of action. Players in Mumbai team have been saying off the record that Sreesanth had been abusing many Mumbai players in vulgar words during the game and many Mumbai players were reportedly upset with Sreesanth. The irony of all this is that the Match Referee Farokh Engineer is going to enquire into this incident. Engineer and Abid Ali had once been involved in an ugly incident where they both had threatened each other with cricket bats in the dressing room during India's tour of England. Farokh Engineer himself was one of the worst behaved cricketers to play for India and this particular incident had been extensively written on by Sunil Gavaskar in his book 'Sunny Days'...now Sunny Gavaskar is in the IPL governing counchil...wonder what he must be thinking :hysterical: :hysterical: ( I wonder why the media has not yet latched on to this angle )

Because someone must've caught it. I hope BCCI suspends Bhajji so that stupidity doesn't prevail. They need to take a firm stand after all that happened in Australia. I was happy that Bhajji got Hayden & Symonds in both the finals and that justice was honored with Sachin's word taken into account. But this is horrible. Guest HariSampath
Bhajji will be suspended for minimum 10 games as the IPL comes under ICC code of conduct and Lalit Modi has already said this is being treated as a level 4 offence

According to Maninder Singh and Nikhil Chopra ,he has assaulted his Punjab teammate for dropping a catch earlier.Good riddance! He should be banned for life. And that slap!Couldn't have landed on a more appropriate player...:hysterical::hysterical:Sreesanth has been itching for one for sometime . Guest HariSampath
Here are some more interesting tidbits I have managed to gather from some correspondents covering the IPL..I have heard it "off record", but most of it will be true I think. Bhajji reportedly slapped Sreesanth thrice and also abused him. There are very clear video footages available of at least two slaps received by Sreesanth. Before this was available, the BCCI ( and Farokh Engineer) had issued show cause notice to Bhajji, while allowing him to play in tomorrow's game. But certain developments took place late this afternoon, first of which was very clear physical evidence by videos and also still photographs that showed Bhajji slapping Sreesanth. Yesterday night and today morning, apparently those who wanted to play down the issue had persuaded Sreesanth to go easy on Bhajji and as a result Bhajji had also spoken publicly about the fact he had apologised to Sreesanth. Things set to be heading for a "sweep under carpet"...when one person said an absolute NO to Bhajji getting away. Preity Zinta. The feisty lady is supposed to have told Lalit Modi that she would do everything in her power to haul Bhajji over the hottest coals, and is said to have prevailed with IS Bindra and Lalit Modi to ensure Harbhajan Singh receives the strongest possible punishment under ICC law. Lalit Modi, with the reputation of his brainchild IPL under tremendous threat is believed to have fallen in line with Zinta. This also coincided with the Mumbai franchise owner Mukesh Ambani adopting a "hands off" attitude, in the genuine fear his corporate house didnt want anything of this nature associated with it, and have decided to "look away". Bhajji found himself totally isolated by this afternoon and was consulting attorneys. It was after this that Sreesanth was told that the Punjab Franchise was indeed pursuing the matter officially and they needed no more statements from him like " nothing much happened"...in short , they asked him to shut the hell up. This was when Lalit Modi issued a media statement that this was being considered by the BCCI as a level 4 offence under ICC code of conduct ( meaning serious and dealing with physical assault ). Now that Bhajji himself has apparently no defence , as he had apologised to Sreesanth, and also with the physical evidence present and available, all that remains to be seen is whether he had any justification. Obviously The official complaint of Punjab referring to "unprovoked attack" is the key here...they are not taking this easy and are not likely to allow Bhajji even offer any earlier sledging as an excuse. As Farokh Engineer has also said, he has been specifically asked by the BCCI to " evaluate the issue under ICC code of conduct and take immediate action", and BCCI has also said "no attempt to sweep it under the carpet". All this means the Monday hearing is just a formality, as only the punishment has to be decided, and Harbhajan Singh will most probably be banned for a period of 15 Int'ls starting immediately.
