ICC MEDIA RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Dubai, 2 March 2007 ICC confirms umpire and match referee appointments for opening stages of ICC Cricket World Cup Tournament?s ?17th team? includes seven umpires from International Panel, perfect stage for them to press for promotion to Elite level The ICC today announced details of the umpires and match referees appointed to the opening stages of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007. 16 umpires, including nine officials from the Emirates Elite Panel and seven members of the Emirates International Panel* have been named. Of the eight members of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC match referees, seven have been selected to officiate with the only man missing Clive Lloyd, who is occupying a role as team manager for hosts the West Indies. The officials, sponsored by Mumbai-headquartered real estate and construction giant HDIL, the same organization that sponsored the umpires and match referees at the ICC Champions Trophy in India, are as follows: Umpiring Team: Mark Benson Brent Bowden Steve Bucknor Aleem Dar Steve Davis* Billy Doctrove Ian Gould* Daryl Harper Tony Hill* Ian Howell Brian Jerling* Rudi Koertzen Peter Parker* Asad Rauf Asoka de Silva* Simon Taufel Match Referee Team: Chris Broad Jeff Crowe Alan Hurst Ranjan Madugalle Roshan Mahanama Javagal Srinath Mike Procter The selections were made by following ICC?s normal process for appointments, with the ICC?s cricket department working with Sunil Gavaskar, the former India captain, Chairman of the ICC Cricket Committee and an ICC Cricket World Cup winner in 1983, and ICC Chief Executive Officer Malcolm Speed. The umpiring team is full of vastly experienced officials including five men ? Koertzen, Bucknor, Harper, Taufel and Bowden ? who have stood in more than 100 ODIs each. The three group matches Rudi Koertzen is due to stand in will take him to 166 matches, just six short of David Shepherd?s mark for most ODIs umpired. With Shepherd retiring in 2005, one thing that is certain is that at least one umpire will stand in his first ICC CWC final as Shepherd and Steve Bucknor have stood together in the past three finals, 1996, 1999 and 2003. Bucknor, who is third on the list of all-time ODI matches umpired and who will be standing in his fifth ICC CWC, will read the officials? oath on behalf of all umpires and match referees at the opening ceremony, in his native Jamaica on 11 March. The International Panel umpires standing in the tournament are also impressively credentialed with Davis, de Silva, Howell and Parker all with more than 50 ODI appearances under their belts, while Jerling?s first match of the tournament will be his 50th in this form of the game. Six of the seven match referees on duty have played in an ICC CWC with only Mike Procter missing out as his career coincided with South Africa?s isolation at international level. One of the other match referees, Roshan Mahanama, was part of the Sri Lanka side that won the tournament in 1996. Commenting on the appointments, David Richardson, ICC?s General Manager ? Cricket, said: ?We are delighted to appoint these match referees and umpires to stand in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 and once again welcome HDIL as the official sponsor of the officials at this event. ?The 16 people really are the 17th team in this year?s tournament and they will work just as hard as the players to ensure they perform to the highest possible standards. ?Every individual has earned his appointment through hard work and dedication, and the opportunity to stand in cricket?s greatest showcase will, I am sure, be a high point of each official?s career and something that will remain with them forever. ?We are especially delighted to appoint seven umpires from the Emirates International Panel to stand in the tournament. ?These officials have performed strongly in international matches to earn their recognition and they now have the perfect platform to demonstrate their skills to the ICC, the players and a worldwide audience. ?Further strong showings by International Panel members could place those officials in with a chance to stand in the latter stages of the tournament as well as making a case for their promotion to the Elite Panel in the future. ?That is exactly what happened four years ago when Simon Taufel?s performances in the ICC Cricket World Cup earned him a promotion from the International to the Elite Panel and since then he has been named Umpire of the Year three times in a row at the ICC Awards.? The umpires will each stand in two warm-up matches, detailed below. Note, the warm-up matches do not have ODI status and so there will be no ICC match referee in place for these games. 5 March West Indies v Kenya, Trelawny, Jamaica ? Brent Bowden and Brian Jerling England v Bermuda, Arnos Vale, St Vincent ? Rudi Koertzen and Tony Hill South Africa v Ireland, Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground, St Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago ? But prior to that evening of entertainment they will take part in a two-day training and preparation workshop on 10 and 11 March. This should help ensure the maximum level of consistency in the application of the Laws and playing conditions throughout the tournament. The officials will be divided into four teams in the group stages: Team A, officiating in matches in group A, in St Kitts and Nevis, involving Australia, the Netherlands, Scotland and South Africa are match referees Ranjan Madugalle and Javagal Srinath and umpires Bucknor, Benson, Hill and de Silva. Re: ICC umpire and match referee appointments for World Cup

Bucknor, who is third on the list of all-time ODI matches umpired and who will be standing in his fifth ICC CWC, will read the officials? oath on behalf of all umpires and match referees at the opening ceremony, in his native Jamaica on 11 March.
Facknor's Oath - I will suck to the best of my abilities. :lmao:
