Gautam Gambhir: The Best T20 Batsman in the world

Recommended Posts

i think Gautam Ganbhir has done enough in the T20 matches he has played against international teams..and against some stalwarts of the game....to demand the crown of "THE BEST BATSMAN" to be conferred to him... IMO...His consistency..His Strike Rate...and His contribution to his team...makes him the Most Valuable player... :hatsoff::hatsoff::hatsoff:....

Those 2 Sixes From Gambhir To Rp Those Who Watched It Live, Would Have Loved It. Just Bloody Watch Those.. They Were Pretty Damn Tuff Shots To Play. But The Legend Made The Ball Clear The Fence And Go For Six. Brilliant Stuff From Gambhir

He is the best T20 batsman in the world. He isn't quite as destructive as say, Symonds but he knows exactly what it takes to score runs in this format and like you said, his consistency is remarkable. He also happens to be in the form of his life right now - that always helps.

His ability of handling spin prudently gives him an upper hand in T20. Most of the batsmen try to slog spinners out of the ground, whereas Gambhir plays lofted drives with the spin. As Predz mentioned, GG is in form of his life.

The T20 world cup, the CB series and now IPL. That is three high-profile world-stage tournaments that Gambhir has now performed brilliantly. Clearly shows his batting prowess have hit a point of inflection. It would terribly disappointing to see Wasim Jaffer come out and open with Sehwag, instead of Gambhir, in Sri Lanka later this year.

ODI and t20 player, yes he is great. Whether he'll be able to carry this success forward to the Test Arena is a big question. One thing I have noticed is that he opens the face of the bat too many times to run the ball towards the 3rd man region in the shorter forms of the cricket a lot. He just wont be able to do that in the Test Arena especially if he is going to open the innings. The slips will be waiting for him

Besides, its only Lanka, where the ball doesnt do that much. And most importantly, Jaffer has come up terribly short when faced with decent attacks in helpful conditions ( Eng 2007 and Aus 07/08). Gambhir couldnt possibly do worse.

I think he is one of the best if not the best T20 batsman ... In ODIs he has also proved that he can bat ... I cant wait to see him play test cricket ... stupid selectors should have played him instead of Jaffer in the series against SAF or at least in the last test but never mind his time will come !

His consistency in T20 is almost freakish. He even scored in that one-off T20 match we had in Mumbai against Aus, after the ODI series towards the end of last year.

/-\|\/||75 - the next Nostradamus? :D Coming back to the thread, Gambhir has been in awesome form. I'm looking forward to him getting a place in the 1st SL Test (at least to try him out - he can play spin really well, which helps too). He didn't do very well against Pakistan though (got out to Akhtar both times last year I think).

:haha: jus kidding, I wrote that just for fun. I agree that both Gambhir and Sharma are the future batting stars for india. Gambhir will take care of our top order. Rohit and yuvraj will handle the middle and slog overs...

Its still 20-20...and he plays when power plays are ON..
so what? even Sachin plays when powerplays are ON...but remember, ball moves around a lot/slips are in play at that time

jaffer is proving to be FTB...or was he not even ftb vs S.Africa in india... WJ shud be out of SL squad
100% agree. He simply is not good enough! Gambhir must have a run now. He is more siuted to longer form of game then shorter versions despite his recent successes. Give him a run and he will deliver

ghambhir has shown glimpses of doing better vs murali and malinga than anyone else in the side he should be picked
Mumbai Indians would love to steal him with a multimillion dollar contract if cap is removed and Delhi doesn't match it (which they'll try their best to match)

I am not yet certain Gambhir will do well in Tests. But surely he has EARNED his recall. Give him a series or two (Tests) and we'll evaluate GG in Tests after that. Good luck to GG.

gambhir should stick to 20/20 and ODIs. he has no patience for the longer version. and besides, nothing is wrong in spreading the wealth. what a IPL season he is having. his drives are a treat to watch.

Gambhir is a BORN AND BRED DELHITE, he would never leave Delhi to play for the Mumbai scum ! They can keep their filthy mob money.

gambhir should play in all 3 formats. he is the best 20/20 & odi batsman in india currently and should get a chance in tests. gambhir is 1 of the few players apart from sehwag, tendulkar & laxman who can be expected to smash 4s off muralitharan and gambhir opening alongwith sehwag could start off space-age test cricket scoring at over 5 rpo in tests even

he is ruling the roost rite now in 20 20..and he is very gud in ODIs as well..needs to be given chance in the tests all though he tends to fall over a bit with his front foot before the ball is even bowled and is a big lbw candidate..thats a basic test flaw which will work against him..if he can guard against that he wud be a bloody good opener..coz he murders spinners jus like viru..so shd be a given a chance instead of jaffer..

delhi should try and get virat kohli. He would be good for the middle order, and then you guys can drop/trade karthik for a geniune middle order batsman like collingwood

Second best player of spin after Sachin, actually. He plays spinners better than Sehwag because he don't try to murder them all the time - very clever player.

Gambhir and Sharma, will be the next Sachin-Saurav, great players they have great temperament as well good IQ towards the game. Gambhir should replace Jaffer. No question about it. kind of sad though, because Jaffer has loads of talent.
