Aussies not paid for IPL stints: reports Press Trust Of India Melbourne, May 18, 2008 First Published: 12:00 IST(18/5/2008) Last Updated: 12:26 IST(18/5/2008) In what could snowball into an embarrassment for the Indian Premier League, some Australian cricketers who participated in the cash-rich twenty20 series claim they have not received the wages for their short stints despite repeated reminders to their respective franchise owners. Australian Cricketers Association (ACA) chief Paul Marsh has claimed that the players, who returned home after playing in the IPL for the first two weeks due to national commitment in West Indies, were frustrated with the impasse. 'The Sun Herald' quoted an un-named Australian player as saying that his franchise was not clearing his money despite claiming on three occasions that his wage was on its way. "First I was told it would be in two weeks," the player said. "That passed by and I was told it would be in the following week. Then I was told it would be in in the next few days. I just said, 'I'll believe it when I see it'," he revealed. Another player was reportedly trying to get his money in installments as he needed it urgently to make mortgage payments. The newspaper's report said one of the players got his payment only a few days ago but that too after a lot of effort. The top Aussie cricketers who returned after the first couple of weeks in IPL included skipper Ricky Ponting, pace spearhead Brett Lee, Michael Hussey, Simon Katich and all-rounder Andrew Symonds among others. Marsh said the ACA was keeping a close eye on the matter and will assist the players in getting their due from the IPL franchisees. "It's something we're aware of. There's still a few that haven't been paid," Marsh said. "It's certainly something we've got our eye on but it's not something that we're panicking about. We just want to get a result as soon as we can," he added. Marsh said though the delay has been frustrating, the Aussies were not inclined to make it a big issue but the ACA would speak to the BCCI if the impasse continued for long. "I don't want to blow this up into something that it's not, but I also do want to sort it out as quickly as possible," he said. "It's something we'll go a bit harder on in the not too distant future if it doesn't get sorted out. "The bad PR that would eventuate if the players weren't paid would be so bad that none of the players would go back and the whole thing would fall over," he added. The ACA chief said the cash-rich league, which saw absurd amount of money being bid on cricketers during the players' auction, could have been more professional in its dealings. "You're talking about some billion-dollar corporations so you just can't see how they wouldn't pay their players. They know they have to pay their players and that's why we're not panicking. "The clubs' focus has been about putting their teams on the field. It's organised chaos over there. But at the same time, we'd like to think they would have been more professional than this," he said.

ya, the aussies seem to be in a frenzied effort to show IPL and india in general,in some bad light... they just cant take the fact that IPL is such a big hit even among its own people.. last week we saw ponting requesting aussie fans to switch off IPL and watch AUS vs WI tests instead....they fear that BCCI will be more stronger after IPL..

I wud have been angry if a Zim or Bang player hasn't been paid..but these Ozzies r filthy rich. They have to STFU and wait till our Babus throw the cash.

You can't get paid whenever the babus decide it is time. Given the professionalism of the aussies in general, I would doubt if they would have asked for the money sooner. And given our babus, I am not surprised they take their own sweet time to cut the check. Only BOD I can give is if there is a mis-understanding between the parties cause the contract was vague and didn't specify when players are supposed to get paid. And regarding being filthy rich and having to STFU till babus throw cash, now that is funny. In the professional world, your employer doesn't decide who gets to take their salary when depending on their bank balance.

Well its just that the Australians are proper. Im not trying to take their side. But when it comes to money and contracts theyre legitimate about it. No doubt they will get their money but when they are promised to be paid in a certain amount of time, Franchises must step up and pay them. They also have got to lead a life and even you guys would be angry if you were in their position. Its just time for everything to be set in stone the more legitimacy the IPL has in every aspect the more it will grow and the more larger and larger it will get.

I just don't know what the confusion is with the Australian players. A player needs to play minimum 4 matches to be paid. He gets paid fully for the 4 matches that he plays and 10% of the match pay for the matches that he doesn't play in the season. The IPL has not got over yet. And I do not think anyone would have been paid even a penny, be it Indian, Australian or from whichever nations. Why are only the Australians getting impatient? Had some player got their money and some didn't then it'd have been unprofessional and a matter of concern. It is not a thing where you are paid daily wages.

I don't think the aussies will be expecting payment in advance if the contract says season has to be over to get paid. And I am more inclined to believe that our teams are the ones who are slacking.
