Colour of skin comes in to play - dark cheerleaders told to leave

Recommended Posts

“We found out later that the main reason was we were a mixed group and they did not want coloured people,” the 23-year-old Londoner said.
Indian 'authorities' saying no to color. The irony of it is so thick! I hope someone sues the heck outta these people who refused to allow them, but then again does suing work in India!? Well, what do u expect in a place with lowlife ad's like the "Fair & Lovely" ads

OK, PC aside, you got to look at it as a pure business decision. The cheerleaders are just eye-candy and nothing else. Beauty is skin deep and that is all they are getting paid for. Why should we question then the perception of beauty, however skewed, of a nation brought up on the notion that fairer skin is more attractive? Would you have 300-pound fat cheerleaders?

Would you cast a black man as an ancient asian kung-fu specialist? He simply doesn't fit.
How about a panda? as in Kungfu Panda:tounge_smile: mv5bmjaxodg1mzg0m15bml5dv9.jpg As for the topic, The MI and CSK have desi cheerleaders. Bangalore have mixed cheerleaders as well.

nothing abt PC, flamy. Its abt hurting ppl with darker skin color which is no fault of theirs. Its discrimination based on color which is illegal, so its against the law.
Is discrimination against being fat, legal?

OK, sure it is not their fault. But, what if ppl just dont find them attractive? What about their choice? Of course, as mentioned in the OP, it should have been specified, they wanted only white girls.

The girls are there for just one purpose. Sexual tittilation. Why then, should we question the sexual preference of other people? That's like questioning gays and lesbians. Oopsy-daisy.

What are the cheerleaders being paid for? The audience is there to catch a nip-slip, or an upskirt, or anything that furthers their imagination. If a black girl does not fit into the audience's choice, then she is simply not qualified for the job.

Indians have been known to prefer fairer skin over darker skin. And that is right, Indians discriminate against darker Indians. Stupid, but true. So, the audience being 'colored' makes no difference. When you are going to be thinking of entertainment for a crowd, you tend to go with the general preference, rather than take into equation the different preferences of different people. I believe the company made a dumb mistake by not explicitly stating they want only Caucasians. Even dumber was to ban these two girls just before the match. They could've let them dance for that match and later fired them. However, it is not 'racist'.

He said the people here don't want to see dark people. The nigger word was used and they said they only wanted beautiful white girls" heres a photo of the article http://i29.tinypic.com/29nvzma.jpg

Punjab actually had cheerleaders of mixed color in the initial couple of games. Then they snatched the ICL cheerleaders afterwards. Its obviously wrong whatever the management did. Its good that it came in the media. Hopefully this will bring more awareness to this issue in India. I am not sure about the "n" word being used in India. I wonder if the general public knows about it. However, as mentioned earlier calling names like kala , kalia, etc are quite common, even in movies

It's a pretty well known fact that Indians prefer the fairer skin. Now in what is essentially a titillating job ie. half nude cheerleaders shaking their hips, it's pretty natural that the ones conforming to the liking of the majority of the audience will be preferred. It's a job giving eye candy to the spectators not some racial integration exercise. Why not have fat, mentally challenged, physically handicapped cheerleaders as well then? Simply put, in the Indian context being dark makes them not qualified enough for the job.

Yeah.....I never understood why my Pakistani friends in the US don't get offended at the word Paki, infact use it on their own volition, just beacuse it's racist in the UK.

I'm a bit surprised to read that shwetabh also thinks "this is no big deal"! Oh well!
I am all for racial integration in cheerleaders as long as you are willing to assure me that mentally challenged, physically handicapped, fat, bald people will also have their fair representation without discrimination.

That's how racist they are.

Some Indians being so racist and against colored folks inspite of the fact they themselves are belonging to that! And yes as Rohan says, if Jaya and Murali can play, then so can those 2 gals cheerlead!

The comparison is comical to say the least. Jaya and Murali aren't playing cricket for their looks, nor can Akshay khana and Sharukh play in IPL just because they look good. They play for their cricketing skills. Cheerleaders on the other hand are their to attract the crowd with their external beauty.

^^ Just what I was gonna say. People are confusing the issue here. Should a black person who hasn't even passed high school be given a technical job at NASA when he can't even do elementary math. What would happen if OMG all the other applicants were white!??? :nervous:

OK OK OK, I change my stance. One of the girls (saw them on TV in home sweet home! :yay:), the tall one is pretty tapable. The other one is just yucky ugly though. But, maaaan, the tall one is highly doable.

Looks like according to some of you an entire race is excluded from performing a certain job simply because they belong to that race. BTW, that exactly is what is called racism, doesn't matter what the job is, and is a sueable offence atleast in the US. BTW, we are not talking looks, beauty, yada, yada, yada, here. We are talking race. And NO you can't claim an entire race is ugly, no matter who your audience/clientele is, cause that will come back and bite your ass as being racist.

Not a surprise considering the fact that one of the owners of one of the teams' date=' King Bhaand aka SRK himself endorses Fair and Handsome cream for men.[/quote'] That is absurd and is not relevant to the question on hand. Endorsing a product which changes your appearance is in no way discriminatory against those who lack that appearance. This is like saying someone who comes for ads for Jenny Craig discriminates against fat people or loathes fat people. And one more absurdity. What does one owner's behavior have to do with another owner? Now I know why you guys hate SRK. You keep dreaming up these weird cr@p about him everyday.

The girls weren't excluded because they belong to a certain race - they were excluded because they happen to have darker skin and dark skin is not seen as a good titillating prospect in India, a well known fact. I can't recall seeing any dark Indian cheerleaders in the matches either. It's like asking the CIA to send a black person to spy in Russia in the name of racial integration instead of someone who looks like a Russian and has the looks to match the job description.

We are not talking race but the color of skin and excluding dark skin cheerleaders is perfectly fine if that's what majority of the audience wants. Why shouldn't fat and physically handicapped people be part of the cheerleaders' troupe in that case?
