The high profile commissioner of the Indian Premier League, Lalit Modi, was convicted of possessing drugs, kidnapping and assault in the US during his days as a university student. The conviction came after Modi confessed to committing the offences before a North Carolina court. http://www.hindustantimes.com/StoryPage/FullcoverageStoryPage.aspx?id=2627fc29-733a-486b-bcf0-06935f38808fIPL2008_Special&&IsCricket=true&Headline=Drug+rap+returns+to+haunt+IPL+boss+Modi :omg:

Oh...so Lalit Modi went to Duke ? Maybe the Fuqua business school...its MBA had been one of the top 10 programs in the 1980s. 400 grams of Cocaine ??? That is a LOT of Cocaine in 1985 ! But I dont think that was a proper conviction, because if convicted on Narcotics possession charges he would have been deported by INS, and this is Cocaine. But he had graduated, and just did community service. Probably the plea bargain was he wont be convicted of full charges, but for possession as a user and a first time user...but still 400 grams is a helluva lot of Coke..thats half a Kilogram omg ! I doubt if that is gonna hassle him now, and what the heck it was when he was a graduate student probably , 23 years back....who cares. He has been successful as a cricket administrator and thats more important.

In one of his interviews he said that yes he was charged with possession and he pleaded guilty but since he wasn't alone as it was a group of students .. so the court just gave them a warning. PS: more than 15-20 years later some Babus/Members of BCCI sued him for this act and wanted him to resign from the BCCI post. At one time he had more than 140 cases against him filed by BCCI members.
