Angry fans attack Kaif's house!

Recommended Posts

Kaif's house attacked  ALLAHABAD, Nov 27: A group of people, claiming to be supporters of the Lok Janshakti Party, on Monday vandalised the house of cricketer Mohammad Kaif after his poor show in the ongoing One-day series against South Africa. Kaif scored 8 and 10 in the two One-dayers against South Africa who drubbed India in both the matches, leading to strong criticism back home. "A number of them tried to storm the house, broke some electric bulbs and plastered the name plate with mud," police said. "They also raised slogans against BCCI Chief Sharad Pawar for persisting with Greg Chappell as the coach of the Indian team and burnt their effigies," they added. Police said the protesters, who appeared to be well-known to some TV channel reporters, were persuaded not to go inside Kaif's house but only to burn the effigies. They were chased away by the police party which arrived on the spot. Nobody except servants were present at Kaif's house during the protest as his parents live in their ancestral house in another part of the city. Fickleness of public perception of its local heroes is evident from the fact that people had twice last year protested against non-inclusion of Kaif in the Indian team and burnt effigies of the captain and selectors.

This is the problem with our country. Absolute bi-polar beahvior. Overadulation when success comes and personal destruction when things are not going well.

Re: Angry fans attack Kaif's house! This is stupid really. For those that say the cricketers are treated like demi gods this is an ideal example. Not always are they treated like demi gods, they get thrashed as much as they are hailed. It is hard to be an Indian cricketer and perform consistently. These guys are under huge pressure every time to perform. Few failures and their career is on line not with standing whether he is Tendulkar or Kaif. I remember how hurt some of the Indian cricketers were over here losing day in day out. Most of them looked pale and felt like they had forgotten how to smile.

I thought you said (not quoting exactly) we worship mediocrity and applaud underperformers. :chin:

It depends on the reference. In cricket it is absolutely bi-polar extreme behavior. For other sports where we suck big time (pretty much everything except cricket) we do worship mediocrity.

Re: Angry fans attack Kaif's house! Good points. India as a sporting nation is starved. The moment we spot a cricketer with some talent, we overhype him to ridiculous proportions. Take the case of Pathan. This guy was called the next Akram. Heck, even i almost started believing so :wall: Perhaps, the only trait Pathan can match Akram at, is match fixing -- former does it inadvertently, the latter more maliciously.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: I think like the days when the bookies did not take bets till Tendulkar was playing the same is the case for Pathan, only the reverse holds true.
