Tornado of bitterly scathing hate in the cricket field

Recommended Posts

Defeating the Pakistanis in Carri bean will not stem the flow of Indian, or for that matter, Pakistani blood in Kashmir although if India meets Pakistan in the World Cup Super 8 phase, the tornado of bitterly scathing hate will once again appear in the cricket field. Wisden carried an article by Sanjay Manjrekar, a former Indian international cricketer, on the camaraderie between players of the two sides. Particularly noteworthy is the following quote: ?Off the field we have always been great friends. No two international teams have the kind of interaction before a match that the Indians and the Pakistanis do. You may be friendly with the odd Australian or South African player and exchange pleasantries with a lot of others, but the camaraderie and kinship between Indian and Pakistani players is real. It has always struck me how open and forthright the Pakistanis are about their feelings: some of them have shared their deepest secrets with me after just a couple of meetings.? One wonders off the field, whether this camaraderie or kinship will ever occur between Indian and Pakistan cricket fans?

One wonders off the field' date=' whether this camaraderie or kinship will ever occur between Indian and Pakistan cricket fans? [/quote'] We already do, dont we? Look at it this way. Whenever there is an India-Pakistan cricket series and fans go to the other side of the border they are almost always well received. Indian fans going to Pakistan come back with how warmly they were received and how shopkeepers refused to take any money from them. When Pakistani visit India they almost always go back smitten with India, its vibrancy, freedom enjoyed by its citizens and of course the reception they receive. Why should we not base our assumption(of Indo-Pak bonding) on the fans who actually travel to other country and see with their own two eyes, instead of basing it on haters that exist on Message boards? xxxx

Lurker, this assumption is first sold by media-marketing combine. Excessive patriotism sold toothpastes, cars and refrigerators. It meant, simply, that more people watched or tuned into an India-Pakistan encounter thanks to all the emotions poured into it by the media. And the media got onto the bandwagon because it sold newspapers and generated more ad revenues. India's victory over Pakistan, or Pakistan's victory over India, in cricket proves : Physical superiority? Cultural superiority? Intellectual superiority? Political superiority? Only kind of superiority that is reflected on the field of sport is the athletic variety ? the equation is simple: on a given day, one team played well and the other did not. The point is, cricket can both divide and unite people.

It is also based on the fact that human beings tend to remember the negative points much more than positive point. If your wife tells you 10 times that you are the smartest guy ever you would just take her to be nice, if she says that you are the ugliest SOB she has seen you would remember it for life. Which is why many people, Indians and Pakistanis, are quick to brush away goodwill as nothing but media propaganda but anytime a small statement by politician on either side happens and people are quick to come to defence of their motherland! xxx

I'll be more happier if she says that to somebody else, I'll find her extremely nice :hic: But never happens! :wall: The Harsh Reality of Life
