The World Cup beckons ... I still get excited at this like a little boy in a candy shop. Even though I prefer test matches there is nothing quite like the WC. There is heavy disappointment at not being able to go despite it being so close to NA ... but nonetheless I will follow it closely. May the best team win and lets hope that team is TEAM INDIA.

Re: It is that time again it's been a while since i have been involved in the pre-world cup hype. i joined 2003 world cup after we pre-hype and us losing the first one to the aussies. yes, this is about as big as it gets as far as cricket goes.

The previous best was 18,665 (or something like that) - set on the day of India's victory in the Johannesburg test. Tonight, we surpassed that comfortably - generating 19180 hits by the end of March 13th (GMT time). Congratulations. The record for the busiest hour in one day is still 2146 hits - recorded on November 22, 2006. Today, we fell quite short of that with a high of only 1533 hits. However, i am sure that on the real matchdays when India play, we will comfortably overhaul this record as well. So keep posting, check out our WC website and enjoy the world cup on ICF !

Potato chips, coke, brownies, nachos, and readymade junk food will continue to be consumed as if the living room has been transported to Barbados itself. And listening skills will be at a severe discount. Everyone will have an opinion on everything, and the expert commentators will differ with the popular verdict in the living room at their own risk. People will crowd showrooms selling consumer electronics on the road-sides, watching the matches live on 50 TV screens simultaneously, putting a moral compulsion on the shop owners to delay pulling down the shutters. Clubs, bars, discos and hang-out joints will show the game on giant-screens frequently eliciting collective sighs of relief, and sometimes a painful anguish when Sachin Tendulkar walks back to the pavilion, carrying a billion plus emotions and hopes once again on his strong yet human frame. Taxi-drivers will refuse to take some of us passengers even if that means 300 bucks foregone, a big chunk of his daily earnings. And a small girl will still ask for scores as she sells her colorful balloons of various shapes with messages of love.
