Really enjoying the gymnastics and the swimming. The Chinese are in their own league in gymnastics - it's amazing how they keep executing difficult moves on the rings, the vaults, the parallel bars...everything. They do it all perfectly and make the Americans and the Japanese look distinctly pedestrian. Not only is their execution perfect, they look incredibly elegant as well. God help the judges who have the thankless task of finding deficiencies in their technique ! Hopefully the Russians will give them some competition Much more to cheer for us in swimming though - Michael Phelps already won his first gold, setting a world record. If you are a sports lover, you wil definitely follow his progress because he is on his way to becoming one of the greatest swimmers of all time and easily the best swimmer of his generation. Spitz won a world record 7 golds, but Phelps looks like he can smash that. The Americans and to a lesser extent, the Aussies, will absolutely own the pool, i have no doubt about it. Another big story is that of Dara Torres, a 41 year old 5 time olympian who came back after giving birth, swimming the 50m freestyle. I can safely say that she is the fittest 41 year old i've ever seen. She could probably kick my ass...just barely EDIT; And right on cue, jsut as i was praising them - Chinese gymnast Yang Wei just made the biggest mistake of his career on the parallel vaults...sitting on one of the bars before executing the hand-stand to finish. Real amateurish mistake. Pressure does some crazy things to the best of them

Missed all the action so far but my favourite track events are yet to come. Round up of some Indian players: ‘Players didn’t have time to change’ Beijing, August 9 Under fire for allowing tennis players Sania Mirza and Sunitha Rao in casuals in the Olympic opening ceremony, the IOA today said the duo did not have enough time to change after a lengthy practice session that brought them to the event at the eleventh hour. Vijender outboxes Badou Dinesh makes a nightmarish debut India’s Vijender Kumar (L) fights against Gambia’s Jack Badou G J during their 2008 Olympic Games Middleweight (75 kg) boxing bout in Beijing Beijing, August 9 India had a mixed day in boxing with Vijender Singh living up to the hype build around him as he outpunched Gambia's Jack Badou 13-2 to move into the second round of the 75 kg (middle weight), while in the 81 kg category Dinesh Kumar suffered a humiliating defeat when referee stopped the contest to save the Indian from further thrashing at the hands of Algeria's Abdelhafid in the Olympic Boxing competition here today Shooters off target Beijing, August 9 India's campaign today began on a dismal note as the shooting trio of Anjali Bhagwat, Avneet Kaur Sidhu and Samresh Jung, considered the country's best bets for a medal, fell by the wayside in the qualifying rounds here. The experience of Anjali and the verve of Avneet, making her Olympic debut, were not enough as the duo could not make it to the business end of 10m air rifle event, finishing 29th and 39th respectively. Sizzling Saina sails through Beijing, August 9 Justifying her high world ranking, Saina Nehwal taught her Russian opponent Ella Karachkova lesson in the game as she thrashed her in straight games to cruise into the second round of the women's singles event of the Olympic badminton competition here today. Displaying an awesome form, the national champion took just 27 minutes to knock out Karachkova 21-9, 21-8 in a one sided match to cruise into the second round where she will face Larysa Gryga of Ukraine. Monika cleared, too late New Delhi, August 9 Weightlifter Monika Devi was today cleared of dope charges by Sports Authority of India (SAI) but there appeared to be little chances of her taking part in the Beijing Olympics. "All doping charges against Monika have been cleared by SAI but IOA has not agreed on the ground that time is very short and they won’t be able to reopen the entry process for her but they will be trying to send her to Beijing tonight.†Bajranglal rows into quarters Beijing, August 9 Bajranglal Takhar gave the crestfallen Indian camp some reason to smile as he qualified for the quarterfinals of the men's singles Sculls event of the rowing competition here today. Women trio impresses Team gets bye in first round Indian archers Dola Banerjee (inset top), Bombayla Devi (inset below) and Pranitha Vardineni aim during a ranking round of the women’s archery competition in Beijing Beijing, August 9 The Indian trio of L Bombayla Devi, Dola Banerjee and Pranitha Vardhineni did enough to ensure that the women's team, courtesy its sixth place finish in the ranking rounds, got a bye in the first round of the archery event here today.

At 10 AM EST' date=' the United States basketball team begins their campaign to win back the gold medal against Yao Ming and co. Can't wait.[/quote'] That will be exciting. The USA team seeks revenge and is hungry this time around. The main point would be to see whether the all-stars can gel together as a unit.

4 quarters - 1st one just finished. China have slowed down a bit. There is a noticeable lack of quality in their team which prevents them from making the most of their scoring opportunities, but no lack of effort or commitment. The Americans are leading now 20-16, numerous dunks coming LeBron, Wade, Howard

^^ Ok, I see , just like the NBA China's strategy seems to be hitting 3 pointers. Man to man, they seem to lack the skill but creating room seems to be their strategy. The Americans should take it to the hole and stop trying to hit 3 pointers atm

I don't think the USA will fail to win gold, but it will be close. Forget 43 point wins like 1992 It's amazing how often these Chinese are hitting 3's. 7 from 11 so far !! Too bad they aren't strong enough when it comes to actually attacking the basket like the Americans are. LeBron has been great - some huge blocks at the back and some big points. China keep coming back though, no shortage of excitement

Americans are running away with it at as the 2nd quarter slowly comes to an end. The Chinese have no defensive strength at all. BTW, the size difference between the two teams' players is really telling - Americans are big, muscular, 220+ lbs while the Chinese are lanky, small and considerably light-weight. Not much difference in speed, but the Americans make more powerful runs and just blow past the Chinese. The size difference will show up in the scoreline, which is currently 49-37

the semi-final match saw Team USA defeated by Argentina, 89–81, ending the United States' hold on the gold medal. Team USA did rebound to capture the bronze medal by defeating Lithuania. Still, it marked only the third time that an American team failed to win gold, and the first time for an American team composed of professionals. Before 2004, American teams had only lost two games in all previous Olympic tournaments, whereas in this one the American team lost three.

Pred ' date=' is it true that USA choked in the finals in the last Olympics ? also do u know against whom did they choke ?[/quote'] They lost to Puerto Rico, Lithuania and Argentina. At Sydney, the Lithuanians came within 2 points of beating them in the semi final game. They could have done if their forward hadn't missed a 3 pointer at the end
