http://thenews.jang.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=47048 KINGSTON, Jamaica: Just days before Pakistan left home for the Caribbean, Inzamam-ul-Haq announced that he is planning to promote himself up the order to provide greater stability to the team?s batting line in the World Cup. But in the World Cup opener against the West Indies on Tuesday, the Pakistan captain once again came at the regular number five position in a match that his team lost by a 54-run margin. Inzamam chose not to comment on his decision to stick to number five against the West Indians but sources in the team said that he remains double-minded over shuffling the positions of the side?s three key batsmen ? Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf and himself. After experimenting with different combinations in the two warm-up games against Canada and South Africa last week, Pakistan returned to their normal batting order with Younis coming at number three followed by Yousuf and Inzamam. While Yousuf and Inzamam made 37 and 36 respectively, Younis was unable to find many runs and was dismissed for just 9. Overall, it was an unimpressive performance by the team?s ?big three? who could just muster up 82 runs in the Pakistani total of 187 in the match against Pakistan. The source said that the team?s officials and senior players discussed at length about the idea of bringing any changes in the batting line-up after the morale-shattering loss in the opening match. They were yet to reach a consensus on which batsmen should be retained for Saturday?s game against Ireland and whether Inzamam should go at number four with Yousuf following him next. The source said that after another round of discussion, the batting order would be finalised on Friday (today). Inzamam, 37, is Pakistan?s most accomplished batsman with 11701 runs in one-dayers. Most critics back home believe that he should take more responsibility and promote himself in the batting order to ensure he gets more time at the crease. Inzamam, otherwise a stubborn man, seemed to influenced by the criticism when he announced before coming to the West Indies that he would be batting at number four in the World Cup.

Re: Inzi to promote himself up the order first good thing he has done in some time. the next logical step, neuter afridi (but then again that might just be redundant), and yeah pick up a Gillette mach 3 or the new quatro.. p.s. evening school classes in english speaking might help too.

Re: Inzi to promote himself up the order I don't quite know why he is so stub born. The no.3 and no.4 come pretty soon at the crease and that could be a reason why he wouldn't want to bat up the order. It happens with some that hasn't played the new ball through their life. If you have no confidence against the new ball you might as well not play up the order. I've heard some never quite liked playing against the new ball and they were labelled sisses. Recently Lou Vincent refused to bat up the order and ask for a middle order slot. Guess what, he was dropped from the team that visited South Africa. If Pakistan doesn't make it to semi finals I can't see Inzi continuing in the team. If Pakistan lose pretty badly then expect few heads to roll like the last time. The only difference this time is its not the veterans but it will be the inexperienced that will get the chop along with Inzi.

Re: Inzi to promote himself up the order YK is like their Dravid. If wickets tumble he needs to bat up to steady the ship. If openers get off to a good start, Inzi comes in early. That said, Moyo is as good as Inzi, so either can bat at 3. YK should simply open, he comes in in the first 5 overs far too often anyways
