Bangladesh mocks at India's "cash-rich cricketers"

Bangladesh mocks at India's "cash-rich cricketers" Indo-Asian News Servi A day after its heady triumph, Bangladesh mocked at India's "cash-rich cricketers" and the cricketing authorities for making cricket "a product, not sport." Behind Dhaka's mood turning somewhat self-righteous is the fact that India is the only cricketing nation that has never invited Bangladeshi team for a test series "because we are not considered financially viable." "India sees cricket as business but Bangladesh knows and plays cricket as a sport. The only country that has not invited Bangladesh to play a test series is India, just because Bangladesh is not financially viable as a team. Now, India have to understand that cricket is a game and not a commercial apple!," wrote Tareq Mahmood in Prathom Alo newspaper. "The win can be an upset, but if you can forecast a win, is it still an upset?" the newspaper quipped in its lead story on Sunday. For Bangladesh the victory was "a protest for considering cricket as a product, and not a sport," the newspaper said. The contrast in mood among the two South Asian neighbours was noted by The Daily Star that said, "While the dawn broke in Bangladesh with joyous celebration in very nook and corner with people distributing sweets, spraying coloured water and displaying patriotism at its best with spontaneous rallies all across the country, flakes flew across the border." In an editorial entitled "Time to Keep A Cool Head", The Daily Star advised, "This is a grand beginning we have marked in world cup cricket. Let it not get into our head, rather we draw an inspiration from it to play into the super-eight and the rest of the ivy league stages with cool head, right stratagem and determined application." Bangladesh has of late resented being termed "minnows" of the cricketing world. The New Age said in its editorial: "For those critics of the new format who have argued relentlessly that the increased number of 'minnows' will only bring down the quality and standard of the World Cup, Ireland's win proves that it is important to give the lesser sides in the world a chance to perform against the best, and the value in being an inclusive sport which encourages wider participation rather than being a sport which is restricted to a small elite club of nations."

Re: Bangladesh mocks at India's "cash-rich cricketers" In times like this you gotta love the good old days of muhawaras when a lot could be said in a matter of few words. For the Bangladeshi gesture the apt one would be - Kutte ko ghee hajam nahin hota. :hic:

Re: Bangladesh mocks at India's "cash-rich cricketers" Panickers View "Right on, mate, India has to understand that. India also has to understand that memory is short: Bangladesh would not have been playing Tests at all, at least not at this point in time, but for India -- specifically, Jagmohan Dalmiya -- gift-wrapping Test status and handing it over on a platter, for reasons we won't go into here. Anyway. Nice, you've arrived, you've found your cricket feet and now, your voice. Use it in good health, and all the best."

Re: Bangladesh mocks at India's "cash-rich cricketers" Lol, this only shows how classless Bangla is...that's really dissapointing that their writers lack judgement, b/c to be frank I was very impressed with the way their boys played. But now I really hope we both qualify and India demolishes them in the Super 8s...puttign tehm in tehir rightful place. Hey Bangla you un-grateful fackers...WHO MADE YOU A COUNTRY? UHHH....WE DID! Never forget that.

Re: Bangladesh mocks at India's "cash-rich cricketers" Sala. One fluke win and they've stuffed their head with sorts of tall tales. Okay; fine--let's invite Bangladesh. 5 Test Matches in India. And let's treat the Bangla's with COMPLETE FAIRNESS. That is to say, ... if you beat Australia ... you don't automatically get 60 points to raise your ICC ranking to 61--you get what most teams get--3 points. Agreed Bangladesh?

Teams start to show their true colours * COMMENT Robert Craddock * March 19, 2007 AUSTRALIA is still good. England is still weak. Pakistan is still a shambles and India is still a team of pampered stars and the most overrated side in the world. To see India's team of cruising millionaires harassed and gang-tackled to the ground by the bustling little Bangladesh side with an average age of 23 will remain one of the joys of the cup. Inspired 17-year-old batsman Tamin Iqbal embodied the spirit of a Bangladesh team which is desperate for the world to respect it when he was hit in the throat by Zaheer Khan, then charged the same bowler and smacked him for a vicious straight four. Bangladesh has long felt it was only a matter of time before its thriving junior system, which traditionally produces one of the best under-19 sides in the world, gave it a decent senior team. Under the guidance of coach Dav Whatmore, it is well on the way. "I haven't seen them for two years and I cannot believe how good they are and how they have improved out of sight," commentator David Lloyd said. India, by contrast, remains the great underachiever. Every time it has a major tournament it trots out its list of big names -- Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag among them -- and gets beaten. The side looks stale, emotionless and soft. The once great Tendulkar looks like a battle-weary veteran. India looks anything but happy, and its recent form of just seven wins in its past 24 one-dayers says everything about what a massive disappointment it has been. Coach Greg Chappell will write a book when his contract ends -- perhaps as soon as next week -- and it should be quite a read. It will be interesting to see whether he spills the beans on the self-indulgence in the team, with players refusing to train hard and more worried about commercial deals than the team. When Bangladesh needed 10 runs to win, the cameras panned to all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, who let out a five-second yawn. He, as much as anyone, embodies the pampered-pussycat mentality of a side that promises so much and delivers so little. Nothing that has happened in the first week of the cup will have Australia quaking in its boots. South Africa chopped up The Netherlands with ruthless disdain but has always been spectacular minnow munchers. It doesn't mean the Proteas are going to handle pressure against the big boys any better than they used to. Sri Lanka and New Zealand look good if not flawless. The well-drilled Sri Lankans are a beautifully balanced team and will challenge all-comers.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok it's official. The only other thing I want other than winning the world cup, is Australia embarrassed. I want the Robert Craddocks and Ricky Pontings of this world to go red in the face. I really don't care who does it -- bangladesh, south africa, england -- whoever. It needs to happen, and it needs to be painful for the bastards.

Re: Bangladesh mocks at India's "cash-rich cricketers" By the way ... ... to this fool of an author. Sport IS ENTERTAINMENT. The business is just as big as the game fool. Otherwise, global events like this are not sustainable. Get this through your head: No India-->NO CRICKET.

Re: Bangladesh mocks at India's "cash-rich cricketers" We gave you your country. We invited you to play a triangular with Kenya when no one looked twice at you. We gave you test status. We played you in your inaugural test. You fucking ingrates.

Re: Bangladesh mocks at India's "cash-rich cricketers" Looks like they can't quite get their feet on ground. They are going to be shocked if they have no modesty. It will come to bite them big time surely. Geez they have no clue about modesty do they? The very reason they are playing international cricket now is because of the cash rich Indian cricket board. I remember Dalmiya playing the mentor to get them drafted in international cricket and now this. Go figure
