kabira
When we toured in 97 under Sachin...we were ruthlessly drubbed in Durban...In next Test Sachin and Azhar played gem of the innings and saved some sort of pride.. At that time, people used to say that we need 2 good quality batsman that can support Sachin and Azhar..because they were the only ones performing oversees.. In came Saurav and Dravid in 3rd Test and scored some valuable runs and we almost won that game.. Similarly today, we have Dravid our premier batsman and supported by Sachin. Will we unearth two gems? Will we find support cast? Ofcourse one can count on Sehwag in Tests to score on big ton..Laxman will chip in .... I am hoping Badrinath to get a nod and show his skills. In 97 we performed badly in ODIs...manage to reach final..and should have won ....In Tests besides Durban, we were not too bad...even with batting line up of 2 seasoned pro...Ofcourse we had Srinath..our 3rd and 4th bowler were crap...and thats where we lost out.. In 2006 we have better batting line up on paper...and one could say better pacer than Johnson and Doda Ganesh...and also there is no Allan Donald in SA line up.. So all is not lost...we have a fighting chance to win atleast one Test. Link to comment
DesiChap
Re: Similarity between 1997 and 2006 For the 1st test we should play: Sehwag Jaffar VVS SRT Dravid Ganguly/Badrinath (Ganguly will probably play if he is in the squad) Dhoni Kumble Sreesanth Zaheer Munaf Gangs and Badri will probably play if Dravid is not fit for the 1st test. Sooda
Re: Similarity between 1997 and 2006 Id say we are better than in 97 (at least on paper) but SAf arent as good. But I guess that shows the CHASM between the SAfs and us in 97. Link to comment
Gambit
Re: Similarity between 1997 and 2006 I think we had a better ODI batting lineup in 97 compared to the one today but the test lineup today is better than the one back then. Link to comment
