kabira
Should we keep the point system as it is or you want to make it based on Strike rate, Run rate and Economy Rate. For explaination go here http://www.indiancricketfans.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=3639 Link to comment

The Outsider
Re: SS point system SRs and ERs need to be accounted for. Only thing is to settle on the best way to take it into account. My suggestion to keep it simple would be to use: 1. The product of batting average and SR to determine the points.(Higher product gets more points) 2. The product of bowling average and ER to determine the points. (Lower product gets more points) Just run the numbers for a few players from cricinfo and I am sure most will agree that the above gives a fair and simple assessment of the rankings of the players as one would perceive them. The Outsider
Re: SS point system what you mean by batting average and bowling average here?? In this case its going to be total runs score by a batsman(ignoring if he was dismissed or not which) and for a bowler runs conceded/wickets taken. Link to comment
Predator_05
Re: SS point system Bah. Screw all these complex equations and decompositizers. Have brackets for every batsman to allocate bonus points. Every run counts, bonus points apply when accounting for SR. So an SR of; 10-30; 0 bonus points 30-50; 5 bonus points 51-75; 15 bonus points 76-85; 30 bonus points 86-93; 35 bouns points 94-100; 50 bonus points 101-150; 100 bonus points Done Link to comment

The Outsider
Re: SS point system Batsman A scores 80 off 100 deliveries. His points would be 80*(0.8)=64. Batsman B scores 90 off 60 deliveries. His points would be 90*(1.5)=135. Bowler A takes 4 wickets for 40 runs in 10 overs. His points are going to be 1/((40/4)*(40/10))= 1/40*some number we can come up with to equalize batting and bowling performance. Bowler B takes 1 wickets for 20 runs in 4 overs. His points are going to be 1/((20/1)*(20/4))= 1/100*some number we can come up with to equalize batting and bowling performance. Link to comment

Fair enough. But given that each team is going to be playing 6 games all in different conditions chances are the pitch factor will even out over the number of games. If you still want to take that into account, Yoda's suggestion of normalizing by the total number of runs score in the match is good. Link to comment

His points would be 90*(1.5)=135. Here we are assuming that SR of 100 is par.... That may not be the case..In low scoring games like the one between WI vs Pak, SR of 80 is brilliant..where overal SR was 60. whereas Pointing scoring 100 @ 140 SR against NED gives him heck lot of point. Here scoring rate of 160 is par... Link to comment
gator
Re: SS point system keep it simple..... 1 run - 1 point is good enuf and 1 wicket is 25 pts is fine..... both teams get the same numbr of overs and in the end, the better selected super-selector team is the one which scores more runs and takes more wickets..... The Outsider
Re: SS point system Here we are assuming that SR of 100 is par.... My point is that over 6 games all teams are going to play on different pitches to average that difference out. But you can normalize with the total runs scored in the match to account for that.
