IPL franchisees form association, want say in regulations 9 Feb 2009, 0048 hrs IST, Sonali Krishna, ET Bureau MUMBAI: The Indian Premier League is set to witness a number of changes in the second season. For starters, club owners are becoming a lot more aggressive and want to have their say in the rules and regulations scripted by the IPL governing council. The eight club owners have formed an IPL franchisee association, an intermediary body between IPL governing council and the club owners. The Punjab Kings XI initiated this move, and after a meeting with all the club owners in Goa, a decision was taken. The next step is to get the association registered, get a charter and form a committee that will have a representative from all the franchisees. The club owners felt that they had no say in the rules and the changes that were incorporated by the council. These changes, they said, impacted them directly. The creation of the body will now protect the interest of the franchisees. The eight team owners met IPL commissioner Lalit Modi on Saturday and made a detailed presentation on how it will work. The pitch was that all decisions that IPL comes up with will have to be first approved by the IPL franchisee association before they reach the IPL governing council for approval or execution. Mr Modi, it is learnt, has approved move.
