Sachinism
Karachi: Pakistan's senior all-rounder Shahid Afridi is seriously considering retiring from Test cricket after national selectors ignored him for the two-match home series against Sri Lanka starting later this week. The 28-year-old Afridi said Thursday that he was disappointed over his failure to impress the selectors ahead of the opening Test against Sri Lanka and added that he would retire from Test cricket if Pakistan continued to ignore him for the longer version of the game. "I was looking forward to earning a place in the Test squad," said Afridi, who has not been in Pakistan's Test picture for almost three years. "But I respect the selectors' decision," he stressed. Afridi played the last of his 26 Tests in the summer of 2006 against England in Manchester. Since then national selectors have curtailed his role to one-dayers and Twenty20 internationals. Afridi shot to instant stardom on his debut as a 16-year-old in 1996 when he scored the fastest ODI century in Nairobi. He has so far played 271 one-day internationals, scoring 5,531 runs and taking 243 wickets. His Test career is less impressive, having scored 1,683 runs from 26 Tests with 47 wickets. Afridi was given a lifeline by national selectors when he was picked to lead the Patron's XI against the visiting Sri Lankans in a two-day warm-up game in Karachi on Feb 17-18. However, in spite of hitting a 29-ball 49, Afridi was unable to convince the selectors that he deserved a Test recall. http://cricketnext.in.com/news/afridi-considering-test-retirement/38430-13.html ==== This could really be a blessing in disguise for Pakistan Link to comment

hassan_113
The thing is that this bloke most of his career has been stupid in his batting. But the one year he looked great was 2005- playing with his brain...solid and attacking in tests and ODIs as well. Australia, India, WI and England all found this to their cost. However, after a few sub-standard performances in SL and a bad performance in England, he was jettisoned. I actually think tests is good for him because it allowed him to take time with his innings. I was actually in the crowd at Old Trafford on the first day- hit Monty for six and then hit one straight up in the air next ball- really bad! Link to comment

Pak_Forever
Not sure what you guys are whining and laughing about. It's a pretty simple article which you would hear from any player who is dropped....Ganguly anyone? so many articles, so many times of 'disappointed at being dropped, will make a comeback' etc etc. Afridi has a great talent in him and the beast is really hidden in him, only if he had used his brain cells he would have been a nightmare for many teams....though he has been for few team for few good years :winky: He has done well in Test cricket so keeping him in the loop is not a bad option.
